Gorgonnian and Clownfish

I moved to the central coast after art school and set up my studio in Morro Bay, where I painted for 40 years.  Morro Bay is a wonderful place for an artist to work. I flourished here, but in the late 80s , looking for new worlds to conquer, I took up scuba diving. When I went down and saw all the wondrous things, it was like a new world.  I tried painting it, but I was unable to capture the beauty, so I took up photography.  That opened another world to explore.

First I had to learn all about the underwater equipment and how to use it to get successful photos.  It was a challenge but I kept at it.

After 15 years, I gave up diving and turned to land photography which was a totally different ball game than underwater photography. My underwater photos were all taken with film cameras.  Now I was in the digital world.   The challenge this time was learning how to use the computer to process my photos and to get  familiar with new software that was getting more complicated and sophisticated!

Now my painting background came to my rescue and influenced almost everything I did with my photography.  It is really a lot of fun to wield lots of creative ideas without having to clean brushes and deal with the messes of a painting studio.

Morro Bay Sunset Morro Bay Sunset

This winter there have been some sensational sunsets and the type of clouds seems to determine the colors.  Some days they are very yellow and orange and some days amazing pinks and mauves. It is fun to try and guess what they may be.  Morro Bay probably has the best sunsets in the world, which makes for great photography!
