Some Unusual Police Incidents
The following are merely highlights taken from hundreds of hours of work output of the Morro Bay Police Department's routine law enforcement, investigations, contacts and follow-ups — if you can call anything in law enforcement "routine."
- The Morro Bay Police Department conducted its first Decoy Minor Operation related to a recent California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) grant. The decoy minor that attempted to purchase alcohol, visited sixteen businesses. Unfortunately, eight of the businesses visited provided alcohol to the minor. Decoy minors look their age, and provide their actual ID and true age if asked.
- The MBPD received information from the District Attorney's Office that a man arrested in December for First Degree Burglary of an inhabited dwelling, and resisting arrest, was convicted of felony vandalism and misdemeanor trespassing. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, ordered to pay restitution for damages done and placed on three years probation. The suspect will also be referred to behavioral treatment court to address personal issues
- In the late evening of February 11th, officers responded to a report of a domestic battery incident in the 400 block of Shasta. The female suspect was reported to have pushed the male victim and hit him on the head. After further investigation, the incident was documented and an emergency protective order was issued for the victim.
- In the early morning of February 11th, officers responded to a report of a prowler looking into a bathroom window at a residence in the 400 block of Rennell Street. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. Extra police patrol is being done in that neighborhood.
- In the morning of February 12th, a victim reported she had been sexually assaulted in July 2011, while visiting Morro Bay. The case is under investigation.
- In the afternoon of February 12th, officers received information that someone had been passing counterfeit $100 bills at businesses along the Embarcadero. The possible suspect was described as a 30-year-old Hispanic woman wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans. As with all counterfeit cases, the assistance of United States Secret Service was requested. The case is under investigation.
- On February 12th, officers responded to assist the Fire Department with a motorhome fire at the North Creek parking area. A man in the motorhome received severe burns and was transported to a burn center in Fresno. Sadly, the man's dog died in the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. However, the motorhome was filled with personal items and the man appeared to have been living in it.
- In the evening of February 12th, officers responded to a report of a suicidal female in the 500 block of Paula St. The woman appeared to have overdosed on something and due to her extreme intoxication she was taken to French Hospital. The woman was later referred to San Luis Obispo County Mental Health.
- In the evening of February 15th, officers assisted County Probation with a search of a residence in the 2100 block of Main Street. A 28-year-old man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe. A 23-year-old woman was also arrested for possession of a methamphetamine pipe and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
- Officers attended 40 hours of training related to the K-9 program.
