June 27 beginning @ 10 a.m. — 4th Wednesdays @ the Movies "I AM" (70 minutes)
A message from Karen, our Group Facilitator for the our 4th Wednesdays @ the Movies program this month . . . . "As we close out the spring and get ready for summer, we have the opportunity for some heartfelt reflection through an incredible movie experience this month. I encourage you to consider doing the following two assignments in preparation for our 4th Wednesdays @ the Movies program "I AM" discussion, and possibly as something to just do . . . ."
I Am Assignment #1: Defining Yourself
Intention: Change starts with consciousness and changing your definition of yourself. So let's get honest.
Assignment: Write down the definition of who you think you are right now. Then, write down the definition of who you want to be. Compare the two and decide on three intentions you can make to help you become who you want to be. Put them on a piece of paper and place them somewhere you will see them every day.
Examples: If you vow to eat healthier foods, stick your intentions on your refrigerator. If you want to spend more time with family and friends, tape your intentions to your computer.
I Am Assignment #2: Decide What You Really Need in Life
Intention: In I Am, you'll see that Tom Shadyac realized his big house, fancy cars and private plane didn't bring him happiness. He found the contentment he sought after downsizing. And he's not alone. Look at nature—nothing in nature takes more than it needs, so why should we?
Assignment: Today, look around your home and make a list of what you can live without. Then, give up one thing. If after today you discover you don't need it, pay it forward and give this item to someone in need.
Examples: If you can get by with five pairs of shoes, not the 20 in your closet, donate them to your favorite organization. Are there more televisions or computers in your house than there are people? Donate the ones you don't need to a local school or senior center.
I AM is an engaging and entertaining film which asks luminaries from the worlds of science, philosophy, academia, and faith two questions: what's wrong with our world, and what can we do to make it better? Bring your completed assignments from above with you for the discussion following the film.
