Volunteers are needed to help rescue and care for marine mammals found on the Central Coast shores. Prospective volunteers can learn more during an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6. Sponsored by the Marine Mammal Center, a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured, sick, and orphaned marine mammals.
The meeting will be held at the Morro Bay Community Center, 1001 Kennedy Way in Morro Bay. The center trains and educates its volunteers. For more information, email or call 771-8302.
Join us in a community volunteer effort to re-vegetate and complete a stormwater management project on Saturday June 9nd from 9am-1pm at 1530 Madera Ave, San Luis Obispo 93406.
Re-vegetating the area with native plants will help increase water infiltration while decreasing runoff and erosion into Chorro Creek, a creek inhabited by threatened steelhead trout. Volunteers will be able to learn about stormwater management techniques, water conservation, and greywater systems as well as increase their knowledge on native plants. All ages are welcome and some refreshments will be provided. Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes. This event is put on through a collaborative effort between the Watershed Stewards Project, California Conservation Corps and Morro Bay National Estuary Program.
The mission of the Watershed Stewards Project (WSP) is to conserve, restore, and enhance anadromous watersheds for future generations by linking education with high-quality scientific practices. A special project of the California Conservation Corps, WSP is sponsored by CaliforniaVolunteers and administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. |

2012 Cambria Scarecrow Festival - Plan ahead and mark your calendars!
For the entire month of October, over 250 of the most amazing, artistic and liveliest scarecrows will be taking up residence throughout Cambria's East & West Villages and Moonstone Beach Drive. Cambria will celebrate the arrival of the scarecrows with food, music and fun during Harvest Festival the 2nd weekend in October.
The Scarecrow Festival has been growing leaps and bounds since its introduction in 2009. It is a free event that, while presented by the Cambria Historical Society, does not raise any funds for the organization. It is just a real fun month-long event that is the Society's way of giving back to the community.
Check out Cambria Scarecrows for updates.
