Covering Your Bases: Permitting In and Around Creeks

the County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, Zone 9

When living adjacent to a creek, all associated maintenance becomes the responsibility of the property
owner. This includes removal of fallen trees and bank protection.

Before undertaking any of these activities on the creek bank or in the creek, ask yourself if the
Department of Fish and Game (DFG) or other agencies need to be involved. Visit the Permit
Requirements page of the County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, Zone 9 website
www.coastalrcd.org/Zone9 for additional information. The Coastal San Luis Resource Conservation
District is also available for free permitting and technical assistance to creek adjacent landowners in the
San Luis Obispo Creek Watershed. Contact us at 772‐4391.

Use the table below as guidance when determining when to contact DFG.
