The nature of a succulent is to have a unique system of storing water — the retaining of moisture for sustaining life during extended periods of aridity. As with succulents, we have the capability to be masters of self-management. If we take in available and appropriate nourishment and learn to avoid wasteful energy expenditures – in other words we dodge situations that deplete us – this is a powerful, yet economical approach to self-care and self-maintenance. Somewhat like succulents that attend to their own needs, we can develop a natural foresight. When we take responsibility for and apply diligence in regards to building good overall health, we have a better chance to evade exhaustion or collapse when we're weary. To practice intuitive conservation of our energy allows us to bloom when the time is right. If we let nature's succulents to be an example of how to absorb and assimilate wholesome and essential elements for the purpose and promotion of personal growth, we set ourselves up for survival during times of drought. Whether physical, mental, spiritual, or whatever we incorporate into our systems, it should cultivate and support well-being. The more skilled we are at self-stewardship — becoming our own keepers — the more bearable external circumstances tend to be. The better we are at self-management – prioritizing what is important — the more likely we will endure the inevitable and often unforeseen cold spells and heat waves without wilting and withering away. When we're prepared to face the tough times, with reserves of life force to spare, we're equipped to tolerate less than optimal conditions, and we're ready to thrive and evolve when situations are favorable. Micromanage ourselves and we influence the quality of our lives in a positive way. Take charge and take care. Succulent Image by Julie Galas |
