Some Unusual Police Incidents

The following are mere highlights taken from hundreds of hours of work output of the Morro Bay Police Department’s routine law enforcement, investigations, contacts and follow-ups; if you can call anything in law enforcement “routine.”

  • In the early morning of March 2nd, officers responded to a report of a man trying to break into a motel room in the 800 block of Morro Ave. The man was located by officers and arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
  • In the afternoon of March 5th, officers stopped a car being driven erratically. The driver appeared to be impaired on prescription medications. The driver was arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
  • In the afternoon of March 7th, the School Resource Officer arrested a man for providing marijuana to a minor in the North Creek parking lot.
  • In the morning of March 7th, Morro Bay Police Detectives and Officers served a search warrant on a residence in the 2000 block of Bay view Ave. Morro Bay Detectives, while working some recent burglary cases, received information regarding a possible suspect at that location who may have stolen property in his possession. During the service of the search warrant, detectives and officers located numerous items including televisions and computers that were reported stolen during recent burglaries in Morro Bay. Detectives interviewed the suspect who was subsequently arrested for 5 counts of residential burglary and 5 counts of possession of stolen property.
  • In the early morning of March 7th, officers responded to a report that a car had struck a deer at SR 1 and Yerba Buena Street. The deer’s back was broken during the collision and the officers were required to euthanize the deer to end its suffering.

Officers attended 25 hours of training related to the K9 program and the Regional SWAT team.

[Note from editor: We apologize for this abbreviated version of police incidents, but the department is apparently undergoing a transition and their newsletter was short of information this month. Hopefully things will return to normal soon.]
