Next time you are in the library, head into the John Kim Room to enjoy "Catch," on loan from the History Center of San Luis Obispo through November. "Catch" is a thoughtful display that highlights the fishing community in San Luis Obispo County in the 1970's. Explore the danger, sacrifice and passion of the fisherman's world. You're sure to be drawn into the photography of artist Thom Halls, whose work is featured in the exhibit. This display also is family-friendly.

Tuesdays
October 4 10-11:30 a.m. Poetry Discussion Group
This program also meets at the same time on October 11, 18 & 25.
Join educator Gaylyn Anderson on Tuesday mornings for poetry discussion. Come any week to listen, share and discuss your favorite poems and your own poetry. For more information call 995-2285.

The Morro Bay Book Discussion Group meets at the Library on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – Noon in the John Kim Room.
Join us in October as we have the opportunity to read, discuss and explore historical fiction as well as enjoy a visit from a very special local author who will end our 2011 Wednesdays Local Authors Series by sharing some Central Coast history with us.
October 5, 10 a.m. - Noon The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
The setting is the Colony of Connecticut in 1687 amid the political and religious conflicts of the day.
October 12, 10 a.m. - Noon Parade Along the Creek: San Luis Obispo Memories of the 1920s through ‘60s by Rose McKeen
Learn about the early years of San Luis Obispo by taking a walk down memory lane and along the creek.
October 19, 10 a.m. - Noon Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie
An enchanting tale about the magic of reading and the wonder of romantic awakening during China's infamous Cultural Revolution.
October 26, 10 a.m. - Noon Meet Local Author Barbara Wolcott
Join the author of In and Around San Luis Obispo as she takes us on a wonderful tour and discussion of the history of the Central Coast like you have never heard it before! You won't want to miss this Pulitzer nominated writer and author of four books about our local area. This meeting will be our final Wednesdays Local Authors Series event.

This program also meets at the same time on Oct. 13, 20, 27.
Also featured during our Children's Story Time is the Read 4 the Record program in which we encourage everyone to read the same book - which this year's selection is: Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney.

October 28, 10-Noon 4th Fridays Mystery Readers Group at the Group Facilitator's home. (Please Note Off-Site Location)
We will discuss The Private Patient by P.D. James.
Join us for the last 4th Fridays Mystery Readers group of the year with James's stellar 14th Adam Dalgliesh mystery. The charismatic police commander knows the case of Rhoda Gradwyn, a 47-year-old journalist murdered soon after undergoing the removal of an old disfiguring scar at a private plastic surgery clinic in Dorset, may be his last. James's readers fervently hope it isn't. Dalgliesh probes the convoluted tangle of motives and hidden desires that swirl around the clinic, Cheverell Manor, and the grimly fascinating suspects in her death.

KIDS! October 29, 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Harvest Festival - for all ages!
Join local children's author Adrian Hurtado as he reads his book, AcroBat, during our annual Harvest Festival in which there will also be pumpkin decorating, bobbing for apples, mystery boxes, games, and many tasty treats! Come in costume and add to the fun!
Books (for the Wednesdays program only) are available for checkout in advance at the Morro Bay Library. The Fall Series 2011 Booklist, 4th Fridays Mystery Readers 2011, 2012 Booklist, and Local Authors Series Flyers are available for download at Morro Bay Book Discussion Group or at the library. The Morro Bay Friends of the Library holds regular book sales to raise funds for the library. Friends also provide volunteers to support library services and operations, publish a newsletter distributed four times a year, and build and maintain awareness of library needs and services throughout the community.
