October 6 City of Morro Bay Sign Ordinance Public Workshops

The City of Morro Bay will hold the second of two public workshops to solicit public comment on recommended revisions to the city's Sign Regulations. The first workshop took place on Thursday, September 29th from 9:00 .m. to noon. The workshop will continue and conclude with a second workshop on Thursday, October 6th also from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  Both workshops will be located at the Veteran's Hall, located at 209 Surf Street, in Morro Bay.

The Morro Bay Sign Ordinance is a set of regulations within the Zoning Code.  The current regulation is codified in Chapter 17.68 of the Morro Bay Municipal Code.  In 2005 after a series of meetings at both Planning Commission and City Council the City adopted a new zoning Code.  This new code was submitted to the California Coastal Commission (CCC) in 2006 along with a revised Local Coastal Plan (LCP), however the CCC never certified these documents.  After issues with temporary signs (A-Frame and Banners) located throughout the community, City Council directed staff to hold public workshops in the Fall of 2011 to ultimately submit a revision to the Sign Portion of the Zoning Code to the CCC for approval.

The City of Morro Bay is looking for public feedback on proposed revisions to the Sign Ordinance on character, size, type and location of signs within the commercial and residential areas of the City. In addition to the public meeting, a web page will be set up to provide more details and to solicit input from interested parties at www.morro-bay.ca.us. For further information, contact Kathleen Wold - AICP, Planning and Building Manager at 772-6261 or kwold@morro-bay.ca.us.
