Dear Roxie,
In 1973, John and I went to Italy with the girls. I can’t
recall where you were at this point, but I know that you were involved
in your own life. From the day we married, John would tell me the how
one day, he would take me to Tuscany where he spent exciting and
sometimes, frightening days during World War II. He did take me, twenty
five years later. Somehow, life had just gotten in the way.

The
Elements of Life by Lucille Bosco
As
always, it is required to look at the Cosmic Map in its entirety to
capture the essential story of the "Stars." For now, I will continue my
passage through the romantic and eventful month of September, where
learning begins once again, relationships transform into commitments,
babies are born and countless birthday celebrations will be enjoyed. Read More
Frustrated
Local Writer by Rose Marie Zurkan
Once
it was a part of the city he had been familiar with. The place hadn't
changed, still the slum he remembered from his days at Columbia. Garbage
littered the streets, blown around by subterranean drafts from passing
subways. People, mostly blacks, loitered in doorways or sat on stoops
in front of doorways that were little more than gaping holes. Stu,
feeling conspicuous, hunched down in the car and searched for an escape
route, thankful he had gassed up before driving down from his
grandfather's house. He felt like an alien on earth for the first time
and was ashamed of himself for feeling that way. Read More

One
Poet's Perspective by Jane Elsdon
John Muir
once said, "What we love we protect." That concise nutshell contains
the reason why in the autumn of 2008 seven poets met together with the
intention of gathering on a twice monthly basis to write poetry of
endangered places in San Luis Obispo County with the goal that we turn
our collection of poems into a book, if the work warranted it.

Opera SLO by
Kathryn Bumpass
Ask
most opera fans for an example of grand opera, and I believe Aida will
top the list of responses you get. With its crowds of soldiers,
priests, captives of war and skilled dancers, most of them attired in
exotic costumes, its triumphal march with herald trumpets, its tale of
doomed love marked by dramatic confrontations and an achingly beautiful
tomb scene, this work virtually defines the term "grand opera" as we
commonly use it. Read
