Fairy Queen With Green Collar
by Connie Shepard

Lovely little flower
hiding in the wood
your purple proclaims royalty
and that we should
respect your right of staying
in your place of birth,
at times hiding your offspring
deep within the earth.

The Elements of Life by Lucille Bosco - April 1st is known as "April Fool’s Day," a day when we play pranks upon each other in the form of illusions and untruths. The ancient lore of the Fool is something quite different. The Fool represents a state of consciousness that is fearless because of its innocence. According to author Angeles Arrien, in her book, The Tarot Handbook, the Fool…” (1987), the Fool unifies feelings (water) with energy and vision (fire) to create original and innovative ideas (steam). One Poet's Perspective by Jane Elsdon - In April we honor two things for which many earthlings share passionate love: our planet and poetry. April 22nd marks the worldwide observance of Earth Day through the planting of trees, the general greening of the sphere, and other countless acts of service and stewardship. And all month long in myriad ways, especially in our schools and libraries, poetry is celebrated.    Read More

Shutterbugs by Catherine Ryan Hyde - I like the fact that this feature is called Shutterbugs, because I can embrace that label more easily than "photographer." I figure I spend enough time behind the lens of a camera to qualify as a shutterbug. I guess I could use the same logic to call myself a photographer, too, but I'm careful to note I'm not a professional one. I write fiction as a profession, and take photos just as a way of sharing observations. This is not false modesty. It's a kind of realism. I look at the work of professional photographers, and I know they're doing something I'm not. They are adding something to the moment. I'm documenting it, without much embellishment.
