Morro Bay State Parks and the Museum of Natural History
April 3, 3:00pm - Greg Bettencourt of the Trails Committee, also Cayucos Land Conservancy, will give a presentation about trails in the Museum auditorium.
The presentation will cover design principles and construction of trails, primarily as this relates to State Parks but including general principles as well. New trail construction at Montana de Oro State Park will be included. The program will most likely be somewhat technical, and will help you understand why and how trails are planned and built as they are. Trail work groups, hikers’ groups, and Docents are specifically invited. The general public is invited also, and the Museum will put out a sign inviting visitors to attend.
Here is a brief update on the MdO Bluff Trail ADA project.
Work continues on the North trailhead. Interpretive panels are starting to be installed, and work is finished on some of the overlook points. The team plans to “pull in” the edges so it looks less like a wide road, and more like a wide trail, with native vegetation on the edges. A plan is being developed for this, though work is likely to take a few months.
The ADA restroom near Corallina Cove is nearly finished. Bridges for the trail will be delivered soon, but installation may be delayed. Otherwise, much of the work is ahead of schedule. Coon Creek is open, and there is an ADA-compliant restroom at that site. Work on the south end of the trail has not begun as yet.
