Morro Bay Declared a Bird
Sanctuary
Morro
Bay was declared a bird sanctuary in 1970. Now there is a new bird
sanctuary joining the central coast.
Avila
Beach is the newest bird sanctuary in California. On Dec 3, 2013, the
San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors passed the resolution
creating the sanctuary designation at the request by the community of
Avila Beach.
Shirley
Goetz, a long time resident of Avila Beach, collected petitions and
made several presentations to local Avila agencies that endorsed the
sanctuary proposal.
Her
campaign began when. Goetz noticed an annual increase in migratory
cliff swallows coming to Avila Beach from Argentina.

Morro Bay Library
by Robert Fuller
Davis - Mark your calendars
for Saturday, April 29. That’s the day of the next Morro Bay
Friends of the Library book sale at the Morro Bay Community Center,
1001 Kennedy Way.
Thousands
of gently used books will be available for 50 cents a piece, as well as
many special finds priced in the $1 to $2 range. There will also be a
special section for signed editions, rare and antique volumes.
The
doors open at 9 a.m. for Friends of the Library members, so this is the
perfect time to renew your membership if you have let it slide. The
general public will be admitted at 10 a.m.
This
will be the last sale before the library closes for a major remodeling
project, so now is the perfect time to clear out those overcrowded
bookshelves or those boxes of unread books in your garage and donate
them to the Morro Bay Friends of the Library.
The
library won’t have room to accept book and magazine donations
while the remodeling is under way, so hurry and drop off book donations
in the lobby of the library. And please, do it soon so there will be
time for volunteers to get them sorted and priced in advance of the
April 26 sale. Read More!
