Dear Editor,

From: Karen
Southern France

Hey Richard:

Your writing is so good - I was on the edge of my chair the whole time reading your story, and of course thinking all the while that you must have experienced these scenes yourself, too many times. Collect your stories into a book? But look at you now: helping others to understand, writing great stories, and living a good life.  Bravo.

(This email was received by Richard Hannibal, who writes the "Beyond the Badge" column.

Thank you for your monthly column "Marine Sanctuaries. " Even though I am just a student, my interest in protecting our oceans - our very lives - is strong. People of my generation, in countries across the entire planet, have more at stake than those who have total control over decisions being made now that can destroy the air we breathe, the water we drink, and every ecosystem. Please keep up the fight, Georgi and Kempton, and do all you can to engage everyone. Your work is incredibly important.

Your writer, Jack McCurdy, is reason enough for the Slo Coast Journal to even exist. More truth and wisdom comes from his writings than from the entire Los Angeles Times - and I read that through every day. With his work, I feel the rights and health of our citizens are being watched over. Surely the local powers that be are reading about themselves and reconsidering their negative actions. Does anyone tell them that they are in power to look after our best interests not just their own personal issues and wallets? We are your neighbors. We need for you to do what is right for us, not what is good for yourselves!

RE: The Elements of Your Style

I believe in reading everything that impacts my environment, life and health. While you could certainly do more to tell me about my health (more "live a long life and be happy" information!), you excel at putting our small communities best feet forward (Atascadero has a corn, by the way). It is good that you carry the work of people from "up in the hills," but everything about the coast appeals to me. The wife is encouraging me to start looking for a humble house for us in Morro Bay. Do you know of anything for, say, $50,000? Keep up the good work and keep us dreaming!
