Wednesday Book Discussion Group
Unless otherwise noted, all programs are from 10:00 a.m. – Noon in the John Kim Room at the Morro Bay Library.
April 6 Farm City, the Education of an Urban Farmer by Novella Carpenter and a special program with Morro Bay City Council member and Community Garden Charter members Noah Smukler and Johannah Varland.
In partnership with Cuesta College's Book of the Year program, we will discuss this author's experiences of urban farming in the Bay Area including her adventures in bee and poultry keeping and her desire for such staples as home-harvested honey, eggs, and home-raised meat. (Note: The author will not be present for this discussion.)
Today's program also includes a special workshop/potluck event facilitated by Noah &Johannah (also Head Gardener) which highlights the History of the Local Morro Bay Community Garden, including special organic tastes and treats from the garden. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own organic treats to share.
Today's program, which is normally scheduled from 10 a.m.-noon, will go until 12:30 p.m.
Participants are invited to join the Novella Carpenter this evening at the Cuesta College Cultural and Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo Campus from 5:00 - 7:00 pm for a free program.
April 13 Share Day is a chance for participants to bring and discuss non-reading list books, whether they are fiction, non-fiction, or inspirational books that they have found especially interesting or informative.
April 20 Family Tree by Barbara Delinsky
When Dana and Hugh Clarke's baby is born into their wealthy, white New England seaside community, the baby's unmistakably African-American features puzzle her thoroughly Anglo-looking parents. By the time the Clarkes have uncovered the tangled roots of their family trees, more than one skeleton has been unearthed, and the couple's relationship—not to mention their family loyalty—has been severely tested.
April 27 Meet Local Author, Bobbe Tyler, Searching for Soul – A Survivor's Guide, a breathtakingly honest case study, and a self-examination resulting in the discovery of a meaningful life. Join the author as she relates the origin of her "searing self-appraisal" as she wrote herself to consciousness—and found her soul as the unexpected result of her efforts. She will share how her book "came to be" and the unexpected "prizes" she found when her life-changing book was completed. "Soul-finding is something we all can do if we are willing to seek a meaningful life," she shares—not "out there," where the eyes look everywhere to find what the heart already knows, but within the mostly ignored world of one's inner self. Bobbe will be available to answer participant's questions with the competence that comes from having lived the experience of her words. She will also describe the workshops she has been teaching to help others acquire her "prizes."

April 22 10-Noon - 4th Fridays Mystery Readers Group - Deception by Jonathan Kellerman
When Milo Sturgis, the LAPD homicide detective, catches a particularly tricky case, he naturally turns for help to his good friend and frequent partner, psychologist Alex Delaware. At first it looks like a straightforward suicide: a woman records a message on a DVD and then kills herself. But the facts are all wrong. The DVD isn't a suicide message. It's an accusation against some of her colleagues at an elite prep school. Where will the evidence take the detective and psychologist?
Saturdays
April 2 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Meet Local Author: Christine Heinrichs – How to Raise Chickens and How to Raise Poultry
Christine brings her White Dorking Hen, Blondie, and Colored Dorking Rooster, Mr. D, and shares how easy and fun they are to raise in your own back yard, especially when it comes to getting eggs! You can even check out pictures of the stars at Poultry Book Store. This will be a particularly fun event for people of all ages!
