Yes, I know. It's election time again. I already feel weary, knowing that because we now have to endure a primary, our residents will have to encounter signs all over town for SIX months rather than the three months for just the general election. That is too long for such a small number of candidates in a small town. I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but do we really need the clutter of political signs for such an extended time? Do candidates need to spend that much time and money for an extra election? Is it really in the town's best interest to have potential candidates no longer run because they don't have the money for both primary and general election campaigns? Does the city need to spend the extra money during these financially difficult times? If you answered all these questions as I did, with a resounding "no," then I consider you a judicious human being. Read More

Behind the Badge by Richard Hannibal

Do police departments have quotas on how many traffic citations must be written? This question is asked a lot. It is probably a hold-over from the 1970's when I was a kid-cop. Back then, we had to write one ticket for every free-hour of patrol time. In other words, if we were not busy on a specific assignment for 4 hours of the shift, our supervisor expected 4 traffic citations written for that day. Needless to say, this caused some errors in judgment during the last hour of the shift. Thank goodness those archaic days are over. Read More

Morro Bay Police File by Diane McKinney

Between April 1st thru April 29, the Morro Bay Police Department had over 742 logged calls. Here is a listing of just a few of them.

April 1--Damage to religious property on Piney Way. Officers took a report of a vandalism.

Vandalism $400 or more damage on Whidbey Street. Report of vandalism to vehicle.

April 2--Grand Theft exceeding $400 on Coral Avenue. Theft of a digital camera from unlocked vehicle.
