Adventures in Fitness by Chuck Abbe
We all know we need to work to achieve or maintain our health and fitness. We are bombarded from all sides with fad diets and workouts. We can easily be overwhelmed with all the choices. One of the important things to consider is whether we need a gym membership or if we should workout at home.
Some people do not want to work out where other people are around to watch them. Others get motivation from seeing people working to improve their health. On your own, there is a broad variety of books, internet sites, and friends to help stay on a good program. It can be more difficult to retain motivation when working out alone. At the gym you can get personal help and instruction. Read More
Best Friends by Malcolm Riordan, DVM
The goal of having your dog or cat microchipped is most commonly to identify them as belonging to you should they get lost or stolen. Of course, wearing a collar all the time and keeping the information on the tags current is still the obvious first line of protection. But those collars can come off, especially if your pet gets out on adventure. The use of microchip ID for pets has led to many happy success stories that simply were not previously possible. Let's go thru an example of the whole process as a way to understand how it all works. Read More
Body, Mind, Spirit by Nancy Ballinger
There is a story of an old Cherokee grandmother telling her grandchildren about a fight that is going on inside her, a fight between two wolves. She tells them one wolf is filled with anger, greed, arrogance, self-pity, regret, and lies. The other wolf is filled with joy, hope, humility, truth, love, and compassion.

Medical Myth Busting by Dr. Steven Sainsbury
This month's group of myths involves our sense of sight. What a marvelous gift - the ability to see. It makes sense that we would make every effort to protect our vision, and the following myths probably stem from that desire. But let us not get so caught up in optometric fervor, that we lose sight of the facts. (Sorry) Read More
Morro Musings by Janice Peters
As I announced at a recent council meeting, I do not intend to run for re-election as mayor of Morro Bay. I have served three terms in a row. It is a very challenging job, especially since the primary adds eight months of campaigning to the second year of each term. It is also a very rewarding job. For anyone who might be considering running, here's a job description to aid in your decision: Read More

Wilderness Mind
Recently, friends and neighbors of mine asked why SLO Search & Rescue didn’t launch a search for George Carpenter, who was first reported missing on December 23, 2009. That often happens when a person goes missing with no “Last known location.” This effort is a way family and close friends feel empowered when something happens to someone they love. But in the parlance of SAR operations, George could have been anywhere in the “Rest of the World (ROW). Being an all volunteer unit, we have to use our resources to the best advantage. Read More
