Loss of Identity
(TSA)
by Mandy Davis
In out round the corner
up to the next then back around
dull faces accepting the inevitable
loss of freedom
loss of identity
Do you remember when? he asks
"yes!" I say with guts churning
of times more innocent
times less filled with fear
lives less controlled
When men who should be asking
"what d'ya want on that hamburger?"
rummage through my life
with sweaty hands
looking into my depths with dull indifference
Oh my god! I have a hole in my identity
the two dimensional
shiny plastic replica of a life in numbers
I'm undefinable and damaged
a person to be dealt with mercilessly
Patting me down, feeling my crotch
seeking the secrets from a lump of flesh
the private thoughts of a world gone mad
smoothly down my sides and
Into the toe jam waiting there for sullen fingers.
Too bad I'm not a criminal
to make their day of expectations
of finding and stoning
an unknown yet ever present
enemy of their illusion of security
Stocking footed I shuffle
knowing that they knew not
the highly volatile
extreme and hard seasoned human
they just dismissed
Stuff your life into the depths
get your uggs and sweater
squeeze into a semblance of conformity
if just for long enough to take wing
and flip the bird smiling broadly. |
