Footprints

Imbedded in the soft template
reaching to the horizon
indentations fill in
with oceanic plasma
through infinitesimal cracks
between crystalline structures
worn by time
and relentless elements

 Fluttering, skittering predators
Varied in stature
  designed perfectly
competition minimal
beak and structure optimal
  finding soft tiny crustaceans
a raucous, royal feast
al fresco dining divine

 Off the shore
  bright eyes observe
a round whiskered head
dipping below the surface
leaving no trace
as if a shadow
in this brash and  brazen
home of his birth

 Here, a two legged
gangly exclamation point
temporary, annoying visitor
uninvited house guest
generally to be ignored
yet obtrusive enough
to avoid in waves of movement
but… I am just one

 Many have walked
shiny golden strands
barely cognizant of creatures
intruding into a world
a sentient habitat
only too glad to forget
a species unwilling to share
to recognize inherent worth

 Are we but footprints
in the sand
to be washed away
by the tides of time
by blowing sands
of an impatient earth
removing blemishes and scars
from a sandy visage?

Mandy at Joshua Tree
Mandy at Joshua Tree

Mandy Davis is a born and raised Central California kid that "ain’t so young any more" (young at heart counts though).

Having recently returned to her home here on the SLO Coast after years of activism with Sea Shepherd, and a brief but necessary residence in Florida, she is returning to her roots and work as an environmental educator and a naturalist and guide. The beauty and diversity of the Morro Bay ecosystem is unparalleled as a teaching location and a source of inspiration for her creative endeavors.

An honoring of the earth and sharing the "Language of the Earth" is ultimately her focus and intention. These literary offerings are a manifestation of her dreams, visions, experiences and meanderings They are part of a lifetime of being a wild-heart.
