Docent and Harmony Ambassador Training scheduled starting April 17th
California State Parks will begin training for new Docents and Harmony Ambassadors on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Morro Bay Museum of Natural History. Sign-in and refreshments are available at 9:15 a.m. The training formally begins at 9:30 a.m. and will conclude at 12:30 p.m.
Docents staff visitor desks at the Museum, Spooner Ranch House at Montana de Oro, Pismo Nature Center, and also operate information trailers at the Monarch Butterfly Grove and for sea otters at Morro Rock. They lead walks, conduct school field trips, develop exhibits, tend native plant gardens, and help State Parks in other ways. Harmony Ambassadors keep Harmony Headlands open by walking trails, providing visitor information, and keeping an eye out for emergencies. Harmony Ambassadors will be done at the Museum at approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 17th, and will continue in a separate session for their park unit.
Docents and Harmony Ambassadors are State Park Volunteers. We prefer that prospective volunteers call for an interview prior to training, but if that cannot be arranged, please plan to attend the first session. Training continues April 24th at the Pismo Nature Center, May 1st at Montana de Oro, and May 8th, back at the Museum of Natural History. All sessions are a half day. Makeup sessions will be arranged for docents who are unable to attend all four sessions. Harmony Ambassador Orientation is April 17th only.
Parking may be limited, so please plan to arrive at the Museum before training begins April 17th. For information and to schedule an interview, please call Carolyn Frank, Docent Training chair, at (805) 528-8578, or call the Museum at (805) 772-2694 ext. 0 for the front desk.
