Dear Slo Coast Journal,
Thank you for featuring Jack McCurdy's article [August Issue] presenting the true facts about the Morro Bay Redevelopment proposal. By helping get the word out, you enabled the City's residents to get the real facts, many of which had not been communicated by the City.
On August 10, in a packed house with standing room only, the Morro Bay City Council heard speaker after speaker denounce various aspects of the plan. Many were extremely upset about the fact that the redevelopment proposal focused on homes, instead of the downtown area and power plant, and were very concerned about impacts on property owners. Speakers addressed such issues as decreased property values, potential difficulty in getting loans, the potential for higher home insurance rates, and even canceled insurance policies. Speakers were also annoyed about the failure to contact stakeholders, such as the School Board.
Fortunately, in a 3-to-2 vote, the Council halted the project. Again, thank you. Getting people informed enabled effective citizen participation in government, and I think that the best interests of Morro Bay residents were served.

At last! A news source online and about us, not San Luis Obispo. I miss the old Sun-Bulletin (when it had headquarters in Morro Bay). There was actually news that I could relate to, stories about people in my neighborhood, and letters to the editor that weren't so angry and bipartisan. Count me as a continuing reader and supporter!
