A Bird's Eye View by Mike Stiles
It is every birder's dream to find the mega-rare bird,
maybe a first for the county or the state, or better yet, one that is
so rare it will attract birders from around the country. But, in order
for the bird to be "officially" countable, that region's bird record
committee must accept the sighting as valid. Read More

Elfin Forest by Jean Wheeler
Take a journey through time with Jeff
Grover, Cuesta College Geology instructor. Jeff will focus on the
geologic history of the Morro Bay area from the formation of the
ancient Morros, or Seven Sisters, to the recent development of the
dunes that form the Elfin Forest. He may even give us a glimpse
of what the Elfin Forest and Morro Bay will be like in the geologic
future. Of course, he will describe our local earthquake faults
and talk a little about earthquakes in general. Jeff brings rock
samples and draws diagrams of local geologic action. Join us for
a lively and informative walk and talk. Read

A and B take of marine mammals. While typical surveys are expected
to last one to four days, several surveys lasted from 20 to 54 days and
used decibel levels up to 228 dB. CSLC needs to require a permit
for each offshore geophysical survey rather that a
three-year-blanket-permit that would not include information about
the duration, location, or decibel level of each individual
survey. Read More
Whale Watch Adventures by Rouvaishyana
July 26 – The ocean was relatively
calm, with just a light surface chop. We began seeing humpback
whales within a half-hour of departure on the morning trip. There
were five or six present, so we had our choice. At one point, we
saw a blue whale ahead of us, but it turned and ran south in a more or
less straight line. This species is much faster than our boat, so
it simply outran us, but at least we got a glimpse. We were with
the humpbacks for two-1/2 hours. Read More
