Winter's Harvest
When winter comes
weighing us down
with weariness and loss
natural wisdom whispers
Lower yourself
into the lap of silence
where the shaman's song is born.
Allow her to cradle you
close to her heart
as soil cradles seeds
and roots softly hum.
You are thought
making its way into form.
You are fertility's gift
of rejuvenation,
the bearer of new life.
In the womb of silence
you are winter's harvest.
"Winter's Harvest" was first published in Singing Dreams Into Form by yours truly and the late Beverly Ensing, whose paintings preceded the poems, and were presented to the public in January 1996 for an event at Linnaea's. |
Winter's Harvest
by Jane Elsdon
Winter is here. All manner of things, noticed and unnoticed, go on. On December 9th the Atascadero Writers Group convened its annual holiday potluck at Koffee Klatsch where it has met during the last year. The highpoint of the event was the group's presentation of a plaque to owners, Doris Geisen and her husband, John. It states: "With great appreciation the Atascadero writers' group recognizes Koffee Klatsch for their generous support of arts and literature in Atascadero."
We all know when times are tough, the arts go first. To have supporters at such a time is a gift. AWG wanted to acknowledge the Geisen's significant support of practicing members of the arts so that they, their patrons, and members of the business community at large would know when browsing in their shop how important their kindness and generosity is to members of the community engaged in those arts.
