Please join us at the Morro Bay Library each Wednesday from 10 a.m. – noon in the Program Roomfor the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group as we have the opportunity to read and discuss an inspirational book that will make us think about better ways to care for our health and well-being; a prequel of characters that will have us laughing and crying at the same time; and, welcoming a local journalist for some interesting discussion on local history. We are also introducing something special for mystery readers, so keep reading!!!! Please don't forget . . . for the comfort of all attending please come fragrance free.

The upcoming schedule for this month includes:

January 12 – You Can Heal Your Life by Louise L. Hay

For our very first Wednesdays program of the year, the Group Facilitator will lead us in a discussion on how limiting beliefs and ideas are often the cause of illness, and how we can change our thinking and improve our quality of life.

January 19 – Standing in the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg

This prequel to Can't Wait to Get to Heaven gives us insights into the characters Neighbor Dorothy, Aunt Elner, Norma & Macky Warren, Tot Whotten and more. The time is 1946 until the present in Elmwood Springs, Missouri. A story of richly human characters, small-town life, and the daily contest between laughter and tears.

January 26 – Meet Local Author and Historian – Cal Poly Professor Emeritus Dan Krieger

Join this "Times Past" Tribune Columnist as he takes us on a journey through the Central Coast historical archives. What can we learn about our county's past?

Morro Bay Book Discussion Group, Friends of the Library and other Library Program News

Each 1st & 3rd Wednesday participants have a chance to read and discuss anything from the latest bestsellers, classics, traditional literature, and historical fiction, mysteries or non-fiction books.

Each 2nd Wednesday which are also known as "Share Day" will be a chance for participants to bring and discuss non-reading list books, whether they are fiction, non-fiction or inspirational books that they have found especially interesting and/or informative. Participants also bring their favorite dishes to share with the group. (This part of the program begins in February.)

Most 4th & 5th Wednesdays are when a local author or artist shares their talents through readings, conversations, special presentations, demonstrations, and/or workshops. Local author events are co-sponsored by the Morro Bay Friends of the Library. (Website: Morro Bay Friends of the Library)

4th Fridays Mystery Readers 10 a.m. – Noon

Starting in January, the Morro Bay Book Discussion Group begins the 4th Fridays Mystery Readers where once a month we read and discuss a wide spectrum of mysteries, thrillers and suspense novels at the Group Facilitator's home. Interested lovers of mysteries are encouraged to come and bring their favorite dishes to share as we eat and discuss murder, mayhem and crime! Our first discussion takes place on Friday, January 28th, 2011! Join us as we discuss The Bookwoman's Last Fling by John Dunning. Also, beginning this January, join us at the Morro Bay Library for the Adult Winter, "Get Wrapped Up in a Good Book" Reading Program. Read nine books and receive prizes and surprises. The fun starts on January 15th and ends on April 15th. The Morro Bay Friends of the Library, which supports the Library, holds regular book sales to raise funds for the library. The next book sale at the Library will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011. Members only will be admitted to the sale from 9 to 10 a.m. with the public sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A $3 per bag sale will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friends also provide volunteers to support library services and operations, publish a newsletter distributed four times a year and build and maintain awareness of library needs and services throughout the community.
