Two Cambria Authors Will Explore Writing, Creativity, and Publishing
During Morro Bay Library Book Discussions
Two local authors—one will delve into creativity and the other into the significant changes taking place in book publishing—are scheduled to appear and discuss their works to highlight book discussions programs for September, presented by the Morro Bay Friends of the Library in the Program Room of the Library, 625 Harbor Street.
The events will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, the regular time slot for all the Wednesday book discussion programs that the Friends offer free to the public. Everyone is invited to attend, listen, or interact, whether they have read any of the books or not. For the comfort of all attending, everyone is asked to come fragrance free.
The month's programs will begin on September 1 with an examination of "Suite Francaise" by Irene Nemirovsky. It consists of two novellas that follow the stories of men and women thrown together in circumstances beyond their control beginning in Paris on the eve of the Nazi occupation in 1940. Composed in 1941-42 by an accomplished writer who had published several well-received novels, the novellas represent her unfinished book, her last work written under the tremendous pressure of a constant danger that was to catch up with her and result in her death in Auschwitz in 1942.
On September 8, the subject will be "Living Juicy: Daily Morsels for Your Creative Soul" by Sark (Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy), whose mission is to show how we can explore creative dreams. She has been a transformative teacher and leader for over 25 years and has written and created 15 best-selling books and hundreds of products. She is the founder and CEO of Planet SARK, a company that creates products and services to support empowered living. "Living juicy" is jumping for joy on the inside. What can we learn from" living juicy" during this inspirational Wednesdays discussion?
"Shanghai Girls" by Lisa See is an adventure experienced by two sisters beginning in 1937 will be the September 15 topic. As Japanese bombs fall on their beloved city of Shanghai, Pearl and May set out on the journey of a lifetime, one that will take them through the villages of south China, in and out of the clutch of brutal soldiers, and across the Pacific to the foreign shores of America, where they begin new lives.
Fourth Wednesday Program
On September 22, the first of two "Meet the Author" and "Free Workshop" sessions will feature Mara Purl, an actress who has written for a wide range of media and is the award-winning author of "The Milford-Haven Novels." She will share her empowering insights to enhance your own creativity.
Learn how you can be creative, no matter what your profession or interest; the nature of the creative flow; how to recognize and capture creative ideas you may have overlooked; and how to nurture your own creativity. Purl's expansive background and accomplishments can be accessed at her website. She lives in Southern California and regards Cambria as her second home.
Special Fifth Wednesday Program
The second author, Richard Taylor, will appear on September 29. Taylor, who resides in Cambria, will read from his various books and screenplays. His debut novel, released in paperback in 2008, is "The Haunting of Cambria," which he describes as a scary, funny, and sexy tale set in Cambria. He will also read from his latest book, "Red Mist: Marilyn Monroe. JFK. Murder. Assassination. One Witness."
Taylor also will explore the important changes that are taking place in book publishing, including eBooks and PODs (Apple's iPOD trademark products), and how these changes affect libraries as well as readers in general. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers. More details on his works are at his website.

Discussion groups to meet regularly each Wednesday from 10 am to noon.

It presents an opportunity for readers to reflect and enjoy the opportunity of discussing books that can help change our world for the better.
—On the fourth and fifth Wednesdays, the Friends host local authors or artists who share their talents through readings, conversations, special presentations, demonstrations, and/or workshops.
