Museum of Natural History Mural Project

With fundraising nearly complete, work on a mural has started at the Museum of Natural History at Morro Bay State Park. While this artwork will add to the beauty of the museum, its main purpose is as a teaching tool, depicting various marine mammals—all painted to scale.
Many of the museum's visiting school children have never seen the ocean before, let alone a whale. Even if they have, to see themselves in relation to the size of a whale really puts things in perspective and leaves a lasting impression. A noted local muralist, Kris Doe, designed the mural nearly five years ago, but fundraising efforts lagged.
A serious campaign was mounted this year and now the mural needs only $1,000 more. Come by the museum while the work is in progress to watch this stunning addition take shape. To help with fundraising—and every dollar is appreciated—please click here.
