Shopping at the Book Sale

Thank you, Morro Bay for helping the Friends of the Library to raise nearly $4,000 for your Morro Bay Library at the August Used Book Sale.  So many of you found time to shop the sale last month.  These funds will go directly to the library for materials, books, and new technology.  Thanks for supporting your Morro Bay Library and we'll see you at the next sale on Saturday, November 5 at the Morro Bay Community Center.

New in the library are two art exhibits.  "The Art of the Book" display runs through September 16.  Take some time to view books that have been turned into art!  In addition, there is a special display in the John Kim Room called "Catch" on loan from the History Center in San Luis Obispo.

Here's what's happening at your Morro Bay Library in September.

Tuesdays

September 13 & 20,  10 a.m. - Noon  Introduction to Meditation with Local Author, Ruth Cherry, Ph.D. Two Special Workshop Sessions!

If you missed it in April, these two workshops are now back by popular demand! Learn to know your inner world, maintain detachment by identifying with your Observer, practice presence and passion as a way of life in this two session workshop with local author of Meditation for Skeptics, Ruth Cherry. You say you want to meditate, now is your opportunity to learn how. Call 772-6394 to pre-register.

Wednesdays

The Morro Bay Book Discussion Group meets at the Library on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – Noon in the John Kim Room.

Join us in September as we read and discuss a novel that examines the history of cells, one that takes us on a journey through poetry and one that explores the magical gift of a child. We will also bring back an author who will provide us with two special workshops on meditation as well as enjoy an author that sings and cooks!

September 7,  10 a.m. - Noon The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacksby Rebecca Skloot
From a single, abbreviated life grew a seemingly immortal line of cells that made some of the most crucial innovations in modern science possible.

September 14, 10 a.m. - Noon  Poems that Live Forever selected by Hazel Felleman
Join us as we review and discuss poems of kindness, courage, reverence and patriotism.

September 21, 10 a.m. - Noon  The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender
On the eve of her 9th birthday, Rose discovers she has a magical gift: she can taste other people's deepest emotions and secrets through the food that they prepare.

September 28, No Book Discussion This Week

Thursdays

September 1, 4-5 p.m. Supervisor Bruce Gibson - Open Office Hours with the Community

No appointment is necessary to meet with Supervisor Gibson. Come on in.

KIDS!  September 8, 10 a.m. - 10:40 a.m. Children's Story Time begins again.  (This program also meets at the same time on Sept. 15, 22, 29.)

Fridays

September 23, 10-Noon  4th Fridays Mystery Readers Group discusses The Whole Truth by David Baldacci
Usually a sophisticated plotter, bestseller Baldacci (Absolute Power) offers a story line and villain on a par with an average James Bond film in what's billed as his first international thriller.

Saturdays

September 24, 1-2:30 p.m. Meet Local Author/Musician Sharine Borslien
Join the author of "Cravings, Ravings & Misbehavings - Tales of how one good girl can do a whole lotta bad things and still turn out okay," as she reads, sings, and engages the audience in a question and answer session, and treats us to some of her very own tasty desserts. You won't want to miss this dynamic experience!

Books (for the Wednesdays program only) are available for checkout in advance at the Morro Bay Library. The Fall Series Booklist, 4th Fridays Mystery Readers 2011 Booklist, and Local Authors Series Flyers are available for download at Morro Bay Book Discussion Group or at the Library. For more information contact the Group Facilitator, Karen Robert at 225-3131 or email Karen

The Morro Bay Friends of the Library fund all expenses of the library programs listed above.  The MBFOL's purpose is to establish and maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus public attention on Morro Bay Library branch needs; to support and cooperate with the county, city and state to enhance library services and facilities; and to stimulate gifts, endowments and bequests.  For more information contact Christine Johnson, the President@Morro Bay Friends of the LIbrary or go to Morro Bay Friends of the Library.

See you at the library!
