Didn't Your Momma Teach You Better?

They are Restricted Areas for a Reason
Hazard Canyon

Most dog owners on the Central Coast are responsible owners. However,  a few are not. They feel they are allowed to do as they wish and that includes taking their dogs into restricted areas.  Here are two examples.

At Montana de Oro this young man and his dog were observed twice - a week apart - enjoying the trails and beaches there. However, this trail is clearly marked "no dogs." When spoken to, the man was arrogant and unyielding. His dog's attitude was much nicer than his - perhaps a result of better breeding. Pedigree counts.

Los Osos Oaks is a lovely area with vulnerable resources. Dogs are not allowed there. The "no dogs" sign here has been removed so often by vandals that it is now located in a locked kiosk. This young woman with her adorable child and two beautiful dogs were out for a morning stroll and blatantly ignored the sign. Bad Owner!! Bad!!

Still Speeding

A few mornings a month I spend twenty minutes or so before 8:00 taking snapshots of a few of the boats that come ripping past the Rock. The ones posted here are a tiny sampling of the speeding activity. This is a no-wake, 5mph zone to the tips of the jetty. In some conditions, a boat needs to speed up to get out of the harbor safely. Those conditions have not existed during any of these shots - the rules are being completely ignored. There is a $100 fine for the first offense for those ticketed, increasing with following offenses. The city could fill their coffers with enforcement. Some of these guys are here almost daily and always speeding once they pass the notification sign at the narrow part of the harbor. Many ignore the wildlife, assuming the animals will get out of their way - sometimes that doesn't exactly work out. The worst offenders are the guys on jet skiis. Some - not all - will actually aim at seals, otters, or flocks of birds, ripping directly across towards them. It's a game of chicken with only the morons on the jet skiis getting a thrill.

Both Ways Speeder 1
Speedy 3
Apparently it's as much fun to speed coming into the harbor as while going out. As you can see, the gull isn't terribly impressed.

Revving up. I didn't get a great shot of this boat but, trust me, he can go really fast.

A little better lens and maybe these guys can be coaxed into smiling for the camera.
Fiesta
Speedy Pleasure
Speedy Lite
The Fiesta cuts a wide path when it really gets to going, it just takes a bit longer than the little guys. Speaking of the little guys, even pleasure cruisers get a kick out of an early morning zip. Last one for the month, though I could fill pages with these guys. This one, likek so many, are in a big hurry for a leisurely day of fishing.
