Dear Editor,

I was raised to believe that each generation should try to improve the quality of life for the next generation. In a recent issue of the Bay News, a letter appeared from four of Morro Bay's citizens purporting to ignore that simple philosophy.
With regards to our WRF (Water Reclamation Facility), they claim that we should negate the current potential benefits of new technology and commit only to doing the bare minimum necessary to meet current federal & state standards. They also claim that the cost levied on each homeowner and renter will dramatically increase; yet they do so without knowing the design of the new plant, the true construction costs, the location of the new plant, nor the costs saved by new technology. In my opinion, these are blatant scare tactics used to rile up the populace in order to negate our potential for a modern, cost-effective sewer plant that will meet the needs of our city long into the future...and it's the future with which we should all be concerned.
They also advise us to adhere to the JPA (Joint Powers Agreement) with Cayucos. I have no problem with that as long as Cayucos commits to participating with us in the construction & management of the new plant. After all, it would be to their financial benefit to continue paying a smaller percentage of the cost to handle their sewage than the total cost of a new facility.
No matter what choice we make, costs are going to rise, as costs always do. So I ask: "would we rather pay today's prices and give a benefit to the future of Morro Bay, or be damned for not doing so when we had the chance?"
Iurge my fellow citizens to attend the upcoming workshops, but to do so with an open mind and an eye on the long term consequences for our next generation.

You have got to be kidding me! An astrology column??? That's the kind of crap found in publications written for morons and the easily duped. What's next? An Aliens From Mars Looking for Gay Love section??
Dear John.
(Yes, this is a goodbye letter.)
Open your mind, take a deep breath, and allow for the possibility that intelligent, well-read people can be interested in and even accept the possibility that there is more to life than 2+2=4. Lighten up.
Now, as to that looking for love section you are pining for, I do love my gay friends, but none have a clue where to find a Martian lover for you. Sorry about that. Check back.
