Some Unusual Police Incidents

The following are merely highlights taken from hundreds of hours of work output of the Morro Bay Police Department's routine law enforcement, investigations, contacts and follow-ups; if you can call anything in law enforcement "routine."

  • In the early morning hours of January 1st, officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Morro Bay Boulevard regarding a disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, officers determined that a 63-year-old woman was attacking her 86-year-old mother, resulting in significant physical injuries. Officers arrested the woman for felony elder abuse, domestic violence battery, and a violation of a court order. The woman was booked into the county jail. The elderly mother is now in the care of other family members. The suspect had moved in with her mother and had been living with her for about the past four months.
  • In the afternoon of January 4th, a male juvenile was reported to have run away after attacking his caregiver at a residence in the 2400 block of Reno Court. The caregiver placed the juvenile under private persons arrest and the juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Services Center.
  • In the afternoon of January 6th, MBPD responded to assist the US Coast Guard, Harbor Patrol, and Fire Department regarding a surfer being swept out to sea. The surfer was eventually located with no injuries.
  • In the evening of January 6th, officers responded to the 2600 block of Hemlock to investigate a burglary at a residence. The residents reported a large screen TV, computer, surfboard, lamps, and other household items were taken. The case is under investigation by detectives.
  • In the early morning hours of January 6th, officers responded to a report of a prowler in the 600 block of Elena Street. The man reportedly left the area traveling S/B on Juniper. While officers were checking the area, two more residents called reporting a man in the area carrying a rifle. Officers located a 65-year-old man carrying a loaded rifle in the 2600 block of Juniper Ave. Following investigation, the man was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm in public and public intoxication.
  • In the evening of January 7th, during a vehicle stop, officers discovered the driver was unlicensed and in possession of psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The man was arrested and transported to the county jail. While the officer was at the jail, a loud party was reported in the 100 block of Anchor. Police response was delayed for two hours, because only one officer was available while the second officer was at the jail. Eventually, the two on-duty officers responded and found several minors at the residence who were smoking marijuana. A juvenile was having a party while his parents were out of town. The parents were contacted and the party ended.
  • In the evening of January 10th, officers responded to a report of domestic violence in the 2400 block of Juniper. A woman, who had been drinking, found her boyfriend with another woman. There were no injuries and the incident was documented.
