Book Sale on February 11!
Yes, that's our most important reminder to the community from the Morro Bay Friends of the Library this month. Every year the Friends' book sales get bigger and better with a fabulous selection of books and materials at phenomenal prices. All proceeds of our quarterly sales go directly to fund activities and materials at the Library. See you there—details below!
Here are two goals the Friends have for 2012 that I'd like to share with you. We are aiming to hit the 500-member mark. Currently, we are 460 members strong! Won't you join us too and feel good about supporting your local Library? Memberships begin at $5 a year.
In addition, we would like to end 2012 with 30 business memberships. We currently have 13 business members at $25 a year. One incentive we have to encourage local businesses to join the Friends is our soon to be unveiled Membership Rewards Program. We hope to recruit local businesses to offer something special to Friends membership when they shop or dine locally and show their current Friends membership card. We'll be hitting the pavement soon promoting this opportunity to all of Morro Bay's business owners. Want to join us right away, contact me at #305-3759 or via Email.
All events take place at the Morro Bay Library unless otherwise noted.
Here are February's events at your Morro Bay Library.
Wednesdays
February 1, 10 a.m. – Noon, The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan
Ruth and her widowed mother, LuLing, have always had a tumultuous relationship. Now, before she succumbs to forgetfulness, LuLing gives Ruth some of her writings, which reveal a side of LuLing that Ruth has never known. The truth that Ruth learns from her mother's past will forever change her perception of family, love, and forgiveness.
February 8, 10 a.m. – Noon, The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
During our 2nd Wednesdays special topics discussion group, join us for a thoughtful and prescriptive work on happiness filled with practical advice, sharp insight, charm, and humor.
February 15, 10 a.m. – Noon, Little Bee by Chris Cleave
This is the story of two women and how their lives collide; the choices they make and what happens when they meet again two years later.
February 22, 10 a.m. 4th Wednesdays @ the Movies: "El Amor Brujo" (100 minutes) Spanish with English subtitles
A modern take on composer Manuel de Falla's gypsy ballet, dressed up in pink sunsets and hellishly red fires. Set in a dusty Andalusian village, El Amor Brujo (Love the Magician) is a seductive melodrama of a man whose beloved is haunted by the ghost of another. Breathtaking visuals and stunning choreography highlight director Carlos Saura's third dance film with this story of gypsy lovers who resort to sorcery to eliminate the ghostly presence of the woman's dead husband.
