Please join us at the Morro Bay Library, 625 Harbor Street, for the many free programs provided. Our regularly scheduled book discussion groups are every Wednesday from 10 a.m. - Noon along with the 4th Fridays Mystery Readers group from 10 a.m. - Noon.

Join educator Gaylyn Anderson on Tuesday mornings for poetry discussion, reading, and writing. You will have the chance to bring your own creative writing selections as well as study from The Poet's Corner: The One-and-Only Poetry Book for the Whole Family, compiled by John Lithgow. Wednesday Book Discussion Group
Unless otherwise noted, all programs are from 10:00 a.m. – Noon in the John Kim Room at the Morro Bay Library.
Books (for the Wednesdays program only) are available for checkout in advance at the Morro Bay Library. Once a week, an eclectic group of women come together at a New York City shop to work on their latest projects – and share the stories of their lives….what is in store for the characters, let alone the reader in this yarn of a tale?

Local Author, Kara Hagedorn and her Hawk, Sunshine
What happens when two baby chickens find themselves in a nest with a hawk? Join zoologist and local author, Kara Hagedorn and her Hawk, Sunshine from the Hawk Rescue Program for a truly compelling program in which she will show her film, "Sunshine's Surprise" a tale of a red-tailed hawk who hatched chickens. The star of the film, Sunshine will be available for autographs, and Kara's book which shares this hawk's extraordinary story will be available for sale.

Meet Local Author, Sue McGinty, Murder in Los Lobos and Murder at Cuyamaca Beach and join her in discussion on, “Mysteries, and Why We Like Them So Much!”
From Mrs. Marple to LizbethSalender, local author Sue McGinty takes the audience on a journey of questions starting with, "why is violent death so fascinating, through such examples as CSI and Cold Case, to what is a mystery, to what are the bones of a mystery?" Explore the golden age, noir, cozies, contemporary, the female protagonist, and what we should learn from a good mystery, during this very thought-provoking discussion. How great will this be right before our 4th Fridays Mystery Readers discussion group this month?! :)

Meet Local Author Ken Kenyon "Passage to Cerro Alto - A Tale of the Central California Coast"
Ken Kenyon worked as the newsroom librarian at the San Luis Obispo Tribune, where he had the opportunity to do some writing. He was also a library assistant at the Robert E. Kennedy Library at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo for nearly twenty-five years. From his experience, he has weaved together a fictional account of life on the Central California Coast in the latter part of the nineteenth century. Through readings and discussion, the author will share the themes and sources of Passage to Cerro Alto, the joy and difficulty of writing, editing and publishing a book of local historical fiction, as well as read a passage or two during this special hour.

1930's Movie Musical Month Feature (104 minutes) starring James Cagney, Joan Blondell and Dick Powell
A star-studded Busby Berkeley musical/comedy with James Cagney staring as Chester Kent, a diligent musical comedy director who is continually warding off snoopers hired by his competitors to steal his ideas. When his latest show is cancelled in favor of a talking picture, he turns to staging musical prologues to play before the features in movie houses.

1940's Movie Musical Month Feature (104 minutes) starring Gene Kelly, Judy Garland and George Murphy
This was Gene Kelly’s film debut; a delightful Berkeley musical comedy about a vaudeville song-and-dance team who buck tough times and World War I on their way to success in show business.

Join the Morro Bay Friends of the Library in a special fundraiser as they talk about books while sipping a nice bordeaux and enjoying a gorgeous view of the bay. 20% of total sales will be donated to the Friends of the Library. This is a Members Only event for Friends Members---however, don't despair. Not a member? Join at the door! Memberships begin at $5. The film that reunited Astaire and Rogers for the first time in ten years, this clever story about a bickering show business couple features songs such as "You'd Be Hard to Replace" and "They Can't Take that Away from Me."

4th Fridays Mystery Readers Group where we will discuss, 206 Bones by Kathy Reichs at the Library.
At the start of bestseller Reichs's outstanding 12th thriller to feature Dr. Temperance Brennan, Brennan finds herself bound and injured in an underground tomb. In flashbacks, Reichs fills in the how and why of the forensic anthropologist's deadly predicament.

1960's Movie Musical Month Feature (97 minutes) starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello
A motorcycle gang led by Eric Von Zipper kidnaps singing star Sugar Kane. She is managed by Bullets, who hires sky-diving surfers Steve and Bonnie from Big Drop for a publicity stunt. With the usual gang of kids and a mermaid named Lorelei. Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello are back for more seaside swingin' and singin' at the beach filled with more muscle-bound boys and bikini-clad girls that you ever dreamed possible.

Members only will be admitted to the sale from 9 to 10 a.m. with the public sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A $3 per bag sale will be from 1 to 2 p.m.

The Morro Bay Friends of the Library, which supports the Library, holds regular book sales to raise funds for the library. Friends also provide volunteers to support library services and operations, publish a newsletter distributed four times a year and build and maintain awareness of library needs and services throughout the community. The Morro Bay Friends of the Library fund all expenses of the library programs listed above.
