Report and Commentary on the Morro Bay City Council Meetings
The owners of the new, oversized building at 600 Morro Bay Boulevard requested that their parking-in-lieu fees be changed from the $15,000/space amount agreed on in 2007 to a new fee of only $2000 total. Only council members Winholtz and Smuckler seem to recognize the audacity and pure chutzpah of asking for such a drastic reduction. They both were willing to lower the fee some, but not to the ridiculous amount that was being asked for or to the final amount of $4000 the other three members agreed on. Read More
For the most part, the Morro Bay Police Department fields single officer cars. This allows maximum coverage with limited personnel. If you see two officers in a car it is usually a special assignment car, separate from the usual city patrolling cars, such as a drunk driving suppression unit or a new officer in training. Between January 1st thru January 26th, the Morro Bay Police Department had 1,046 logged calls. Here are just a few of them.
January 1 - Assault with a deadly weapon happened on Hemlock Avenue. Report of a subject hit in the ear with a BB or pellet gun.
Petty Theft on Luzon Street. Theft of a surfboard from an unlocked vehicle.
January 2 - Damage to local church on Ironwood Avenue. Several windows shot out with a BB gun.
January 3 - Disorderly Conduct/Drunk in on Morro Avenue. A 22 Year-old male reported a robbery, which was later determined to be unfounded. He was arrested for public intoxication and booked into San Luis Obispo County jail.
January 5 - Grand Theft on Main Street. A three wheel bicycle had been stolen.
January 6 - Cruelty to Animals on Anchor Street. Unknown person shot an 8-month-old kitten with a BB gun. Unknown if the kitten will live or not. Read More
