All MBFOL members in good standing are welcome to attend the General Membership Meeting on Friday, November 16 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the John Kim Room at the Library.  A light lunch provided by Beach House Bistro follows the Board meeting.  Please plan to attend and to celebrate with the Board an incredible year of advocacy and support for your Morro Bay Library.

At the November meeting, Nominations Chair Joan Petersen will present a full slate of volunteers who are ready to serve on the Friends' Board for next year.  I hope you will confirm their commitment by casting your vote for this slate of outstanding leaders and Library advocates.

This is my final letter to you as President of the Friends.  I will miss my day-to-day involvement with the Morro Bay Friends of the Library.  However, I'm not going very far away.  I will be forever grateful to have worked with this organization and this phenomenal 2012 Board.  I have no doubt that the MBFOL is in the best of hands moving forward to the Library remodel … and beyond.


Here's What's Happening This Month at Your Morro Bay Library!

Tuesdays

KIDS! November 6, 10 a.m. — 10:40 a.m. — Pre-School Storytime.
This program also meets at the same time on 20 and 27.
Join us for stories and music.  

November 13, Library Closed — Holiday

November 27, 5- 7 p.m. Free iPhone Class —  Basics and Advanced Functionality by Morro Bay Resident Aaron Anderson of Rock View Realty
This is another opportunity for this free hands-on workshop which is both an introduction to the iPhone and an advanced class on some of the less obvious aspects of iPhone ownership. Have you wondered what all those applications are all about, and how you can take full advantage of them? Well then, this is the class to take. Learn about the camera and video camera: taking photos and video, editing them, and emailing both; using the App store; grouping apps together; critical apps; saving money with an iPhone; Voip and texting apps; pull-down preview; Siri; FaceTime, Skype, Using Maps; Ebay, Craigs List and Pro. You will also be exposed to Internet widgets/apps for business such as: Google Voice and Meebo.  Please call 772-6394 to Reserve your Seat. 

Wednesdays

November 7, 10 a.m. — Noon  The Warmth of Other Suns – The Epic Story of America's Great Migration by Isabel Wilkerson – Part One — Three
The author chronicles one of the great untold stories of American history: the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities, in search of a better life. We begin a two – week book discussion journey by discussing Parts One – Three this week.

November 14, 10 a.m. — Noon  The Warmth of Other Suns – The Epic Story of America's Great Migration by Isabel Wilkerson – Part Four —  End                       
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. We continue the discussion with Part Four through the end of the novel.

November 21,  No Book Discussion Group this week.

November 21, Library Closes at 5:00 p.m.

November 28 beginning @ 10 a.m. 4th Wednesdays @ the Movies  "Dead Reckoning" (100 minutes).  Please join us for our last 4th Wednesdays movie program this year. A soldier runs away rather than receive the Medal of Honor, so his buddy gets permission to investigate. Love and death soon follow. This 1947 movie features Humphrey Bogart and Lizabeth Scott.

Thursdays

November 1, 10 a.m. — 11:30 a.m. Poetry Appreciation and Discussion with Educator, Gaylyn Anderson.  This program also meets at the same time on 8, 15, 29.  Join us as we review a variety of poets, poems and processes. 

November 22, Library Closed — Holiday

Fridays

November 16, 11:30 a.m. — 1:30 p.m. Morro Bay Friends of the Library General Membership Meeting & Elections – Light lunch provided by Beach House Bistro following the business meeting.

All Friends members are welcome to attend and participate!  Members will be voting to elect our 2013 Board of Directors.

Book Sale

 

November 5,  Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Morro Bay Community Center

Members only will be admitted to the sale from 9 to 10 a.m. with the public sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A $3 per bag sale will be from 1 to 2 p.m. 

November 17, 10 a.m. — Noon  North Coast Writer's Club with local author Robert Hyde.  The North Coast Writer's Club is here to lend support, accountability and encouragement for your writing projects — especially if you are interested in self-publishing. Bring your writing samples.  More information: 772-2657. 

November 24, Library Open 10 a.m. — 5 p.m. 

Books (for the Wednesdays program only) are available for checkout in advance at the Morro Bay Library. The Fall Series 2012 Booklists, and the Winter Series 2013 Booklist which includes the 4th Fridays Mystery Readers  2013 selections are available for download at Morro Bay Book Discussion Group or at the Library.
