Plan for the Month Ahead - You Don't Want to Miss a Thing

Awakening - Everybody Wants Peace

"Everybody wants peace.  Everyone is looking for inner contentment.  Everyone struggles with realizing that the good feelings that come from material goods, fame or fortune all so often fall away.  Particularly in this holiday season, people can feel lost, lonely, and adrift.  However, there are tools and resources to help people find the path to peace and contentment.”  These are the words of the Reverend Nancy Ballinger, Founding Minister and Spiritual Director of AWAKENING Interfaith Spiritual Community, an inclusive group of people of all ages and backgrounds who come together to grow in compassion, understanding and support of one another on the spiritual path.

Located in Morro Bay, AWAKENING will host a Kriya Yoga Weekend with Reverend Ellen Grace O'Brian, Founding Minister and Spiritual Director of the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment (CSE), located in San Jose.  Rev. O'Brian is Rev. Ballinger's teacher and an internationally known teacher of Kriya Yoga meditation and lifestyle.

Friday evening, December 9, Rev. O Brian will offer an informal time of teachings and meditation focused on Spiritual Realization and Fulfilled Living. Questions will be answered about Kriya Yoga, a spiritual path that restores awareness and wholeness and allows us to fulfill our soul's destiny.   Held from 7 – 8:30 pm at the Veteran's Memorial Hall, 209 Surf Street in Morro Bay, it will include Kirtan, with AWAKENING's Kirtan group.  Kirtan is call-and-response singing that calms and transports those participating.

"The philosophy and practice of yoga is called the science of Self-realization because it offers a universally applicable, step-by-step, time-tested method for accessing spiritual knowledge that is innate,” Rev. O'Brian writes in recent editorial of Enlightenment Journal.  "We do not acquire spiritual realization: it is revealed from within.  While we may spontaneously experience an opening to this inherent knowing on occasion, yoga provides a method that gives us predictable access to it.  The way yoga offers is simple: be still.”

On Saturday, Dec. 10 AWAKENING will hold a Meditation Seminar and Kriya Yoga Initiation with Rev. O'Brian in the AWAKENING Sanctuary, 1130 Napa St, Morro Bay, from 10 am – 1 pm.  This will include the essential teachings of the science of Self-and-God Realization.  Rev. O'Brian will offer Kriya Yoga Initiation for prepared students and those previously initiated into Kriya Yoga.  Both events are free-will donation.

Rev. O'Brian is the author of books on meditation and spiritual practice, including Living the Eternal Way: Spiritual Meaning and Practice in Daily Life, as well as CDs of lessons.   "Rev. O'Brian will help both the beginner and the long-time practitioner deepen their understanding of Kriya Yoga meditation,” said AWAKENING's Rev. Ballinger.  "Everyone is welcome to come to AWAKENING to find out more and to practice within a welcoming community.”   Information about AWAKENING can be found at www.awakeninginterfaith.org or by calling 772-0306.
