Coastal Mornings

by Roe Yeager

Morning

Every morning is so amazing. For me, I am excited each morning as I begin my walk to see what is presented. There is everything from fog so thick one can barely see across the street, (much less down the roadway) to completely clear skies with crisp clean air as everything seems to shine.

I am aware of the sounds of the birds all chattering about something which I am unable to comprehend. I image they may be discussing breakfast or last nights dreams or the doings required of the day. There was quite a ruckus one morning between several gulls and as many crows. Heaven only knows what the issues were, though they eventually resolved them and moved on.

Rock

Weekends, when the tourists arrive, people seem to take over this little town. They can be seen meandering along the streets and trails, eating an ice cream cone (yum!), drinking a cup of coffee (also a yum!) or simply blocking the sidewalk while they figure out where they want to go next (not quite such a yum.). I know many recognize and treasure the unique and special nature of this area, though I suspect there are others who fail to linger long enough to truly identify its real beauty. So, me, I do my walks very early to avoid most of this congestion.

When there are clouds present, whether they be towards the east and gracing the rising sun, or to the west where reflections of the light may be everywhere, taking in the entire scene can reveal so many different aspects of how the morning feels. The fog may feel oppressive for some and the sun may create feelings of being so alive for others. And there are always those in between mornings when all feels calm and peaceful and the feelings of "Glad to be alive!" and "All is well!" are all around.

Attempting to capture the scenes and feelings with a camera is simply impossible as I am unable to do justice to what Mother Nature provides us. Sometimes I get so caught up in what is happening I forget I even have a camera. Hence, I gladly take in the experience and keep it in my heart for all time. Life is always different and full of surprises waiting to be explored and experienced.

Rainbow

A recent morning walk after a night rain revealed the sun shining on the rain cleaned Rock with ominous clouds surrounding it. Continuing my walk (in the rain) a beautiful rainbow began to form and within minutes it was a complete half circle over the Rock. A double rainbow developed at the east end as it appeared to offer its treasures at the end of the road. Then, just as quickly as it developed, it faded away to be a memory and perhaps a few lucky shots of its magnificence.

These experiences occur so quickly and only being in that place at that time will provide one with these precious moments of bliss. They take my breath away and cause me to be grateful that I am here, now, and able to take in its beauty and awesomeness. How fortunate am I!

I, again, realize how truly blessed I am each morning.
