For the past two years, Morro Bay has enjoyed the privilege of an open, transparent city government. No longer are we subjected to lease sites being agreed to behind closed doors and policies being created without citizen participation. For years, special interests were placed ahead of the will of the people, our infra-structure was ignored, streets went un-repaired, and real estate projects that benefited only the few still sit deserted to this day.
All of this is beginning to change thanks to the vision & determination of Mayor Jamie Irons, with the support of Council Members Christine Johnson and Noah Smuckler. This change has not come easy; the opposition has used every vindictive tactic available to thwart these changes and to return to the status quo of the past, a past in which the average citizen was often denied a voice in the management of their government.
Carla Wixom is opposing Mayor Irons in the upcoming primary election. While serving on the Council, she supported policies that are rooted in the past; she opposed relocating the sewer plant, a waste of five years & nearly two million dollars; she has supported policies that favor the individual property owner without regard or concern for the property rights of the neighbors; and in her desire to maintain the status quo, she fails to recognize the long term needs of Morro Bay.
We can no longer afford to live in the past while ignoring our changing climate and our diminishing resources. We need a forward thinking, community based leader who is not afraid to challenge the status quo in an effort to guide Morro Bay through today's realities for the benefit of us all, not just the special interests. A vote for Jamie Irons is a vote for our future!
Respectfully,
Roger Ewing

Never before have I been more adamantly opposed to a political candidate in Morro Bay as I am to Nancy Johnson, who is seeking re-election to the City Council. She has shown herself to be rude, dismissive of anyone not in agreement with her, and disruptive of Council meetings with her tantrums and crocodile tears when she doesn't get her way; she continually goes out of her way to be an obstructionist, trying her best to turn the clock backwards; more to the point, she has become an embarrassment to the governance of Morro Bay.
As an alternative to her re-election, I urge you to vote for Matt Makowetski, a teacher, a family man, a gentleman, and a citizen who's intelligence and common sense would be an attribute to our community. He currently chairs the Public Works Advisory Board, and has willingly demonstrated his understanding of City Government and the necessity for public input; his concept of government is what government should be...of the people, by the people, and for the people! I have known Matt a number of years and am constantly amazed at his understanding & grasp of human nature which has enhanced his communication with all factions of our citizenry. A vote for Matt Makowetski will be a vote for good government!
Respectfully,
Roger Ewing
