Adventures of a Country Squire - A strong word, sorrow. Who hasn’t experienced that emotion? And yet does that word alone trigger sadness? Even if not, it prompts me to tell you of my first major introduction to that state of mind. This story explains the life and times of a small, white-haired, mixed terrier. “Only a dog,” some might say. Only a dog? No. A frog is a frog; a rat is a rat. But Whitey became the Zidbeck family’s beloved pet. Read More
A Roe Adventure by Yeager - Many of us are fortunate to wake up to the sounds of song birds singing a good morning to each of us. Thankfully this occurs here on the Central Coast as well. While it may be difficult to identify each bird and its song, I am certain there are many finches in the mix. With the abundance of a variety of trees here, it apparently attracts a wide range of birds that are happy to awaken us with song. Read More

Best Friends by Malcolm Riordan, DVM - Microchipping of pets has been available for about 25 years now, yet there is still a lack of awareness and some misunderstandings out there in the pet owning population. I'd like to review the basics, and then bring out some interesting facts. Read More
Beyond the Badge by Richard Hannibal - Morro Bay Police Officers and Volunteers wore black morning bands on their badges in honored memory of two California Highway Patrol Officers who were killed in the line of duty on February 17, 2014.
Long time friends and partners, Officer’s Brian Law and Juan Gonzalez were working the graveyard shift in the Fresno area. Around 6 a.m. they received a call of a serious traffic collision on Highway 99, near Kingsburg. Both officers were riding in the same marked police car. Responding to the scene, the officers came upon the collision scene at a different location than it was reported. They swerved to avoid hitting the victims and wreckage and struck a guardrail, overturning their car. According to news sources, both officers were wearing seatbelts, but the collision was so horrific, they were killed in the collision. Read More
Double Vision by Shana Ogren - Oxfam International just issued a new report on inequality, stating “The bottom half of the world’s population owns the same as the richest 85 people in the world” and that “Almost half of the world’s wealth is now owned by just one percent of the population.” What world is this that we have created? Shame on us. Read More
Feel Better Forever by Brian Dorfman - Maintaining mobility in the hips is an important part of overall health and wellness that is often overlooked. It is a vital component of lower back care and an intrinsic part of any athletic training program. Northern Chumash Tribal Council by Fred Collins - Let me begin by saying that the fact I even have to write an article concerning Native American Mascots is a shame. These racist images and names offensive to American Indian people should have been long gone by now. Yet here they are, still tomahawk-chopping us with racism in sports and media while they grin at us like that red-faced racist "chief wahoo,"who just moved into Templeton last year and is the reason that I have to explain what is wrong with Native American Mascots.
