Slo Coast Journal Exclusive: Coastal Commission Rejects WWTPThe California Coastal Commission staff has rejected the proposed Morro Bay-Cayucos wastewater treatment plant in a landmark report obtained exclusively by the Slo Coast Journal. Its recommended rejection of the project is expected to be supported by the commission at a March 11 meeting in Santa Cruz, sending the plan back to the Morro Bay City Council and Cayucos Sanitary District board for complete overhaul before the multi-million dollar sewage plant can be built after more than five years of delays. Read More Morro Bay-Cayucos to Hire LobbyistThe city of Morro Bay and Cayucos Sanitary District plan to hire a lobbyist to asses their chances of winning approval of the California Coastal Commission for their proposed new wastewater treatment plant, which the Commission staff has rejected in a detailed 23-page report that some think makes those chances moot and, therefore, hiring a lobbyist a waste of taxpayer money. Black Hill Trail Work DayDo you love Black Hill overlooking Morro Bay and the panoramic views it holds of the Central Coast? The second annual trail work day is scheduled on Sunday, March 20, to keep the trails in good condition so everyone can hike up the mountain and take in those spectacular views. Volunteers are urged to meet at 9 a.m. and lend a hand. They will meet in the Cerro Cabrillo parking lot on South Bay Boulevard just east of Black Hill in Morro Bay State Park. The Cerro Cabrillo summit area will have its trails spruced up as well by the volunteers. A total of 27 people volunteered last year to repair erosion from rain, thin out brush, and close off some short cuts that show up. "Our trails are in much better shape as a result of the volunteers who work on the trails, and we look for more volunteers to help make it better," said Jamie Irons, one of the founders of the trail maintenance project. The effort is being organized by the State Parks Trails Committee and assisted by the Central Coast Concerned Mountain Bikers, who also include hikers, trail runners, equestrians and mountain bike groups, in cooperation with the State Parks Department. There will be coffee and baked goods as well as a raffle and prizes. For further information or to volunteer, contact Irons at 772-9294 or irons@charter.net or Paul at pcr026@gmail.com.
