Each day we awaken with the faith that with daybreak the Sun will shine its light upon the earth as the dawning of a fresh new day with all its possibilities. As your Astro Guide, I will highlight significant planetary shifts that will be occurring during the current month that will prove to be interesting and helpful as you express yourself in the world.

Death, Re-Birth and a Trip to Hades

by Lucille M. Bosco

The Cosmic Energies of 2013 have been relentless for those who have been in pursuit of truth over fiction, connection over conflict and love over hate. Death and rebirth are the verbs for the month of November. Transformation is the noun with Thanksgiving as a gift that keeps on giving for the rest of the year. The rebirth of Spirit continues on November 1st honoring all the Souls who have gone before us. The Sun, Mercury, and Saturn continue to be influenced by the element of water in its fixed state of Scorpio. An appeal to the Heavens is necessary on November 3rd by the ingress of a Scorpio Solar Eclipse. And this is why….

Although Pluto was discovered by Percival Lowell in 1918, this distant planet was not officially named until 1930 by a school girl from Oxford. When she gazed at this dark, cold planet, it reminded her of the mythological god of the Underworld, Pluto (Wikipedia). Richard Tarnas, author of "Cosmos and Psyche" (2006), articulates the essence of Pluto as being "closely analogous to Freud's concept of the primordial id, "the broiling cauldron of the instincts," and to Darwin's understanding of an ever-evolving nature and the biological struggle for existence," (p.99).

Death, rebirth, and transformation are the calling cards for the Greek god of the Underworld, Pluto. The glyph for Pluto  1forms a cross representing matter under the chalice or symbol of the Mind (crescent) reaching for Divine Spirit (Sun). On the lighter side, it may appear as a stick man raising their arms in anguish, crying out, "OH NO!" Pluto is the "ruler" of the fixed water sign of Scorpio.

The glyph for Scorpio 2 represents the stinger of the Scorpion in a downward movement of water into the subconscious (Starck, 1989, p.37). The sign of Scorpio has the curious association to three different animals who express death, rebirth, and transformation — the Scorpion, Eagle and Snake. Those who possess the power of the Scorpion are given a choice to unleash the deadly sting upon others or "soar like an eagle" toward a higher state of consciousness (Starck, p.37). Do not fear the Snake, for we too have a reptilian nature and ability to shed outworn attitudes and lifestyles in order to give birth to a new way of being. The transformative essence of Scorpio can lead to becoming a mystical master or remain in the dense, cold, darkness of one's shadow.

So, that is why it is prudent to make an appeal to the Heavens during the Solar Eclipse on November 3rd. Darkness obscures the light from the Sun as the Moon moves between the Earth blocking our life force and shading our will. Mercury the messenger of the gods knows the secrets if you have the courage to ask. "The mind penetrates to the essence of the matter" (Moore, p.134).

Saturn/Cronos is the timekeeper and lawyer of the Earth. He is directing the structure of the collective. In Scorpio he exudes a serious secretiveness and no nonsense approach to the business world. Globally, I dare not speculate the transformative power of this particular Solar Eclipse. What is initiated during this ingress will continue to affect matter and what matters for a long time to come.

As the month progresses Jupiter in Cancer turns backwards in a retrograde motion on November 6th. This planet of expansiveness can turn to overindulgence while in its retrograde motion. Jupiter transiting Cancer will activate a hunger for our family roots, which may only be satisfied by expanding our bellies. The Universe listens to our yearnings by providing us with an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends in the manner that Jupiter is accustomed…Thanksgiving, well-known as a day of overindulgence.

While Jupiter turns retrograde, Mercury's retrograde period comes to an end on November 10th. I am already letting out a Hallelujah! Hopefully, it was a fruitful period of time for reconnection, completion of projects, and creativity. If during the past three weeks you have experienced confusion, conflict and crisis, you were not alone!

The Taurus Full Moon on November 17th will be influenced by the opposing energies of Scorpio. This Cosmic playground continues to be serious in its aspiration for transmutation with intent to heal the Earth and all of its inhabitants.

Death in Scorpio is a harvesting process and the harvest season should be a time of Thanksgiving. (Moore & Douglas, P. 446). Autumn is upon us with all its transmutations. Re-birth to a new way of being, lest you become mesmerized by the power of the Underworld in your life.
