Life Changes

by Paul Finley

Sunset

At the end of last year my family and I closed down the surfboard shop that we had been running for the last few years. I am excited about the new direction that we are moving in and even more excited about more time with the family and being able to give them more focused attention.

I am back doing electrical work full time. The tool belt is like a bike, good or bad, it's pretty easy to get cruising up to speed like you never stopped.

We are also excited about working on this article, but with a fresh goals and topics. In no way are we trying to "toot our own horn" or make it seem like we have all things perfectly together or completely figured out, but we think it will be fun to work on collaborating something each month that expresses the unique life that we feel so blessed to lead here on the Central Coast, learning as we go . . . living, loving, playing, working and celebrating life here.

Katie and I are happily married for over 10 years now, with three beautiful daughters. We try to live simply and be authentic in our relationships and daily life. Although some things seem redundant or non consequential, I feel we are are learning that each moment of life could be remarkably compared to a letter in a word, a sentence, a paragraph, chapter, or book. If we forget that our story is being written as we go, there is bound to be some poor grammar. Not that I have mastered this is any way, but in hopes to reconnect with an more "examined" life I jotted down this little poem to express to myself, more than anything, what I am feeling in this time of transition.

Give up on thing
gain another
Hold on tightly
loving each other
A new chapter arises
filled with surprises
Looking back on what was
expecting what shall be
Grateful to be here
grateful to be me
