Morro Bay Library Remodel Update!

The Friends of the Library Board of Directors’ Remodel Committee is working hard with our architect, Shana Reiss of Reiss Design Studio, to approve a final plan for the full remodel of the interior of the building before the end of 2012.  The information that is guiding the Remodel Committee and Ms. Reiss in the design phase is gathered from various sources beginning with the 2008 report titled "Our Vision of Morro Bay’s Library:  Where do we want to go?"  In addition, the committee used Library survey information from the past several years as well as extensive staff and volunteer interviews.

Look for a large poster in the Library explaining more details about the project.  And, as you might imagine, we welcome any and all donations.  As the project moves along, we will be updating our website to share more of our remodel news.  At this time, our website is under remodel (as well!) and will be up and running with a new design early November.

Looking toward November, we have our General Membership Meeting on Friday, November 16 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Library.  As always, we will follow-up our business meeting with a light lunch from a local restaurant.  All MBFOL members in good standing are invited to attend.

And, in advance of the meeting, the MBFOL Board is recommending the following change in the bylaws.  The general membership will vote on this change as well as vote to elect the new MBFOL Board of Directors at the November 16 meeting.  We are fortunate to have an interested volunteer for each of the Board positions.  If you would like more information on leadership positions within the Friends organization, please do contact me at #305-3759 or President, Morro Bay Friends of the Library.  Here is the bylaw update for review.

Wednesdays

October 3, 10 a.m. – Noon, "The Imperfectionists" by Tom Rachman
This is the story of the topsy-turvy private lives of the reporters and editors of a fictional English-language newspaper in Rome. The chaos of the newsroom becomes a stage for characters unified by a common thread of circumstance, with each chapter presenting an affecting look into the life of a different player.

October 10, 10 a.m. – Noon, "Before I Go to Sleep" by S. J. Watson
Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love – all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust the most may be telling you only half the story. Welcome to Christine's life.

October 17, 10 a.m. – Noon, "One Good Do"g by Susan Wilson
One note. Three words. And Adam March's well-ordered life and well-laid plans are changed. One instant of opportunity. Enough for one dog to find his freedom. Two lives. Two second chances. That's One Good Dog.

October 24 beginning @ 10 a.m. 4th Wednesdays @ the Movies  "The Party's Over" (82 minutes).
The film examines how the American political process addresses, and often fails to address, the country's most pressing issues. As they countdown to the pivotal 2004 election, the film answers the question, is there a difference between Republicans and Democrats? A month before our own 2012 elections, what questions will this film evoke in us? What has changed 8 years later?
