Draft Management Plan for Morro Bay Estuary Released

Public Meeting March 6th, 2012 6 pm to 8 pm
Morro Bay Community Center (Multipurpose room)
MBNEP
Submitted by the Morro Bay National Estuary Program

The Morro Bay National Estuary Program has released the 2012 Draft Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the Morro Bay Estuary.

The CCMP describes priority issues facing the estuary and presents specific action plans to address those issues. The actions in the management plan are the driving force of the Estuary Program's monitoring, restoration, and partnership efforts. The draft's development built on a long history of public involvement at the Estuary Program, including public workshops, technical working groups, and public comment solicitation.

The draft can be viewed at MBNEP Meetings. Comments can be submitted by email to the Estuary Program's Assistant Director, Lexie Bell.  Comments will be accepted until April 13, 2012.

The community is invited to an informational public meeting on March 6th to learn about the draft CCMP and provide comments on the document. Comments will continue to be accepted until April 13, 2012.

Since its beginning in 1995, the Morro Bay National Estuary Program has brought the community together to restore, protect and conserve the invaluable resources and habitats – and the way of life – in the Morro Bay watershed. Each successful project and countless partnerships are firmly rooted in the Estuary Program's first CCMP that was completed in 2001. Community members developed the plan through a grassroots process that included dedicated, knowledgeable volunteers writing many sections of the plan. Now, after ten years of implementation and many accomplishments, the time has come to review and update the plan to ensure that it captures all of the current issues and solutions facing the Morro Bay estuary, its watershed, and surrounding communities.

Only with your input and ideas can we succeed in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the Morro Bay watershed. Please send your comments on the draft plan to L Bell and join us at the March 6th meeting to learn more about the goals, partnerships, and actions of the Estuary Program.
