About Us

The Slo Coast Journal is all about small town and rural life in one of the finest, most beautiful areas of the country. An amazing collection of eclectic, fascinating, and talented individuals from all walks of life have chosen to make this part of the coast their home. Those who don't already live here, wonder how they can make the move.

Our writers are an enthusiastic group of people who are on these pages to share their love of this special place. In case you are wondering, each is asked to pick a favorite animal for their banner. Some are a bit perplexing, but, oh well. Not only are the writers enthusiastic, they are sometimes a bit - ahh - let's say "unique." We welcome your input, suggestions, and, of course, praise. As Seen From My Couch by Sandra Beebe

Sometimes a controversy can be between two opposing views which both have merit. Most of us feel that we have a jewel of a library here in Morro Bay. It's fun just to walk into it and observe all the activity going on at any point when the library is open. However, it is beginning to feel crowded at times and more space is wanted. It would seem logical that they expand into the meeting room, but decisions are never quite that simple. Read More

Behind the Badge by Richard Hannibal

Police pursuits have been controversial since before the marshal chased Jessie James. I remember my kid-cop days in Los Angeles County, where pursuits are commonplace. I recall my pursuits from those days and looking in my rear view mirror - it looked like Halley’s Comet as the procession of red and blue lights stretched out for what seemed like miles. Thankfully those days are over and police are now better trained, better supervised, and more disciplined when it comes to all aspects of their job, especially in the area of pursuits. Read More

I have been reading the SLO Coast Journal for a while now.  Reading this is so enjoyable because everything is 'local.'  I plan on retiring in the area and want to 'know’ and 'feel’ my new surroundings and what better way to do it than this. Read More

Morro Bay Library

A special three-part community discussion of the historical masterpiece, "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett, will launch the Morro Bay Friends of the Library's Spring Series on March 3, to be followed by appearances and readings by two local authors in the Program Room of the Library at 625 Harbor St. All these programs are from 10 to noon, and everyone is invited to attend for free.

On March 24, the first local author to appear will be Ken Christensen, an accomplished landscape painter and author, who lives in San Luis Obispo. The next will be Gordon Snider, a Pismo Beach resident since 1999, whose latest novel, “The Hypnotist,” was published last year. He will appear on March 31. Read More   (Seriously - read more!
