SLO County Democrats Celebrate Labor Day

San Luis Obispo County Democrats invite the public to celebrate Labor Day with them on Monday, September 3rd, from 11:00 to 3:00 at Santa Rosa Park, San Luis Obispo.

The day will include special guests Lois Capps and other local politicians, a great tri-tip BBQ, and special activities for kids.

County Democratic Party Chair Pat Harris says:  We have celebrated Labor Day with a BBQ and rally for 55 years.  This year especially, with labor unions threatened by corporate power grabs like Proposition 32, we feel it's more important than ever to celebrate the incredible positive impact that unions have had on our way of life.

Tickets for the BBQ are still only $20 each, $10 for children, and children 5 and under are free.  Tickets are available at the SLOCDP headquarters at 1406 Broad Street (between 10-2, Monday through Friday) and online at ActBlue.

For more information on this or other Democratic Party activities, please call 546-8499 or visit the Party's website.

SLO County Democrats Endorse in Local and District Races

The San Luis Obispo County Democratic Party has endorsed candidates in some local races.  John Ashbaugh (incumbent) and Jeff Aranguena have received the nod for San Luis Obispo City Council, David Baldwin was endorsed for Cuesta College Board of Trustees, District 2, and Steve Martin for Paso Robles City Council.

Mike Heyl, Chair of the SLOCDP Endorsement Committee said that Ashbaugh has been a strong advocate for Democratic values on the City Council and that Aranguena will bring fresh new vision to the Council.

Heyl said that the Central Committee strongly endorsed Baldwin because of his experience as Trustee for multiple pension plans and because he will be a "strong voice for the technical/vocational education that is such an integral part of Cuesta's curriculum.  "Martin," Heyl said, "brings a wealth of experience to the position on Paso Robles City Council, having served as both a council member and mayor previously.

SLOCDP delegates had previously endorsed Lois Capps and Bill Monning in their respective congressional and state senate districts. Gerald Manata, of Atascadero, has also been endorsed by state delegates for Assembly Member, 35th District.

Another round of endorsements will be decided on at the September 12th meeting of the SLO County Democratic Party.

For more information on the endorsements and the upcoming General Election on November 6, visit Party's website.
