Morro Bay Book Discussion Groups, Friends of the Library, and Other Library Program News for May

by Christine Johnson

Summertime is one of the busiest times at the Morro Bay Library.  The Library is hopping with kids out of school checking out books and attending high quality family programs.  Our out of town guests also frequent the Library to shop for used books in the lobby while checking email from home.

The Library is the perfect place to spend some time on foggy, summer mornings.  By the time you've check out your material, the sun is beginning to burn through the clouds and you can head to the beach with a good book!  Just take care to shake out the sand upon return.

Happy summer, Morro Bay!

Wednesdays

July 4, Library Holiday – Closed

July 11, 10 a.m. – Noon, House Rules by Jodi Picoult
Because of the previous holiday, we decided to forego our “Special Topics Wednesday" discussion type of book this month.  Instead, we will be reading and discussing this powerful novel about Jacob Hunt, a teen with Asperger's syndrome with a special focus on one subject – forensic analysis. He always shows up to crime scenes and tells the police what to do, and he's usually right. So, when a terrible murder occurs the question becomes: …does that mean Jacob's guilty?

July 18, 10 a.m. - Noon   Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen
Flipped is a romance told in two voices. The first time Juli Baker saw Bryce Loski, she flipped. The first time Bryce saw Juli, he ran. That's pretty much the pattern for these two neighbors until the eighth grade. How these two teens manage to see beyond the surface of things and come together makes for a comic and poignant romance. Join us next week (July 25) as we watch and discuss the movie – beginning @ 10 a.m.

July 25 beginning @ 10 a.m. 4th Wednesdays @ the Movies  Flipped (90 minutes)

Juli Baker believes in 3 things: the sanctity of trees, the wholesomeness of the eggs she collects from her backyard flock of chickens and that someday she will kiss Bryce Loski. This is a movie about the perfect introduction to the adolescent war between the sexes. Join us this month for the first book to movie discussion experience.
