A Sampling of What the Morro Bay Officers
Have Been Taking Care of For Us in May

Over a couple of weeks in mid-May the Morro Bay Police Department responded to 502 calls for service, made 26 arrests, and generated 67 case reports.  The primary charges for each arrest were as follows; five for driving under the influence, one for possession methamphetamine, one for possession of meth for sale, one out-of-state felony warrant, seven for disorderly conduct / drunk in public, one for possession/receiving stolen property, one for local felony warrant, one for out of county felony warrant for assault with a deadly weapon, one for trespassing, two for suspended driver, one for displaying unlawful vehicle registration, one local misdemeanor warrant, two for exhibition speed, and one for petty theft.

In the late afternoon of April 30th, an officer came upon an occupied truck with a expired registration parked in the 300 block of Atascadero Road. The subjects had several questionable electronics in the truck. One of the subjects lied about his name to conceal the fact that he had a felony warrant for assault with a deadly weapon. The ensuing investigation resulted in the one subject being arrested for the felony warrant and possession of methamphetamine. The electronics did not come back stolen and the other occupants were released at the scene. The truck was towed for having an expired registration in excess of six months.  

In the evening of April 30th, a man was reported driving his motorcycle recklessly in the 400 block of Atascadero Road. The subject was located and stopped. The officer learned that the man's driver's license was suspended and the motorcycle had false registration tabs. During the ensuing investigation, the officers located a quantity of methamphetamine that was packaged for sale. The man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine for sale, driving on a suspended license, and false registration tabs on the motorcycle.

In the early morning hours of May 1st, officers responded to a report of someone driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs on South Bay Boulevard. Officers located a vehicle matching the description as it was leaving the city limits towards Los Osos. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was believed to be under the influence. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In addition, officers took custody of the two-year-old child in the vehicle. A Child Endangerment report was forwarded to the District Attorney's Office.

On May 2nd, Morro Bay Police Officers assisted the Visalia Police Department with an investigation into a local resident making annoying and threatening phone calls to relatives currently living in Visalia.

In the afternoon of May 2nd, officers responded to the Morro Rock parking lot to investigate a report of a four-year-old child wandering unattended in traffic. The child was located and a short time later the child's father was located. A records check on the father showed he had extraditable felony and misdemeanor warrants out of Mercer County, Missouri. The father was arrested and the child was turned over to the mother's care.

In the afternoon of May 4th, officers assisted San Luis Obispo County Probation with the search of two men on probation living in the 600 block of Fresno Avenue. During the search, officers found one of the men had 11 double-edged throwing knives on his person, concealed beneath his clothing. The subject had a history of assaulting officers. He was arrested on a weapons charge.

In the late evening of May 4th, officers responded to a report of domestic violence in the 400 block of Errol Street. Officers contacted a male and female at a residence. During the investigation it was discovered that the man had a felony no-bail warrant. The man was arrested for the warrant. The domestic violence investigation is on-going.

In the early morning hours of May 5th, officers responded to a report of a male subject banging on a resident's door in the 900 block of Las Tunas. Officers assisted the owner of the property who placed the man under private person's arrest for trespassing.

In the evening of May 6th, officers responded to Highway One near the intersection of Yerba Buena to investigate a report of a traffic collision. This solo vehicle accident resulted in the destruction of the support poles for the large "Welcome to Morro Bay" sign.  Per our Memorandum of Understanding, the traffic investigation was turned over to California Highway Patrol. On May 10th, this sign was reported stolen and a grand theft investigation was begun by MBPD.

In the evening of May 9th, officers responded to Lila Keiser Park to investigate a report of subjects on the same softball team being involved in a physical altercation

In the early morning hours of May 18th, our dispatch center received a call from a victim who reported she was sexually assaulted. Our dispatcher was on the phone with the victim for over 10 minutes trying to identify where the she was located. The dispatcher did an outstanding job and finally was able to identify the victim's location. Officers responded and were assisted by MBPD detectives. Based on the investigation, a man was arrested for suspicion of committing rape.
