November, 2009     Treat Or a Retreat

II've been a member of the Cambria Writers' Workshop (CWW) less than a year. Imagine how I felt to be included in their writers' retreat at Asilomar up the road in Pacific Grove. A lucky guy.

CWW has been a venue for writers to work on their craft for over twenty-five years. Christopher Moore and Catherine Ryan Hyde created best-selling novels in their midst. Their current roster has twenty-something published writers with more on their way.

October, 2009           Poetry Power

I've been a SLO County resident for more than three years. What has amazed me most about our community is the widespread support of the arts. This is a great place to be a poet.

As is customary, this year's SLO Poetry Festival features award-winning and well-published James Cushing, current Poet Laureate of SLO County. His published collections include You and the Night Music, The Length of an Afternoon and Undercurrent Blues, all with Cahuenga Press. His latest book, Pinocchio's Revolution, also by Cahuenga Press will hit the shelves soon.

September, 2009      Lorin Lee Cary

I'd like to introduce Lorin Cary. a humble and extremely funny man and not-so-absent-minded professor. Lorin, a two time Ohio History Association Book Award winner and Fulbright Senior Scholar, also has many awards for his photography work. He's lived in Cambria for nearly two decades.

August, 2009           Sherry Shahan

Novelist. Travel Journalist. Photographer. Poet. Essayist. Writing Coach. Whew! Which shall I feature? Meet Sherry Shahan of Cayucos. She has more lives than a cat.

A Cal Poly grad with an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, Sherry has lived and written in SLO County for more than three decades.
