June, 2012                Ginger Snaps

Ginger Snaps is the name of my most treasured photography project. Before moving to Morro Bay, I spent five years photographing redheads of all shapes, sizes, ages, and ethnicities across Great Britain. I photographed redheads in the supermarket, on mountain tops, eating their breakfast, piled into English telephone boxes, even in the shower. I started a viral request for redheads and was inundated with pleas to be photographed. With my camera, I wanted to rejoice, celebrate, and idolize the red haired among us. It was so much fun. And yes, I'm one of them.

May, 2012                 A Photographer's Paradise

Here on the Central Coast, we all rave daily about how lucky we are to live here. Like Alaskans, Montanans, and Mainers, we are quietly proud of braving our bizarre and at times challenging weather patterns. Many who visit admire it, but secretly think "I couldn't handle that fog/wind/unpredictability."  Whereas we who live here, embrace it. I'm not just talking about the birders or the surfers. It is a photographer's paradise. We have the best of two worlds: stunning natural landscape (and so varied too) and phenomenal light.

Back then, taking a meager portrait of someone's face seemed so simple. Who knew that fifteen years down the line, I'd be running a portrait studio called Sandprints, in a sweet California town — Morro Bay.
