Featured Column - A Bird's Eye View
I know. I know. I can hear it now. "An article about the starling?" you ask, the icy contempt dripping from your voice. You mean just because it's an aggressive, invasive, introduced bird, that's out-competing native species for nesting cavities, causes great damages to farm fields, disrupts air travel, and is considered by some to be America's greatest pest? Well, it is all that, but in my (feeble) defense, the starling is here to stay, and it turns out it's quite the intelligent and interesting bird. Read More

Jane Bailey, One of Morro Bay's Greatest Community Leaders, Dies
Jane Bailey, one of the first community leaders to organize residents in the 1970s to stop the kind of development that would threatened to destroy Morro Bay as we know it and the "driving force" behind the founding and construction of the first community-owned Morro Bay public library, has died at age 95. She died on November 30 in Carmichael, CA, where she had lived near her daughter, Phyllis Lochelt, after her husband, Don, died in 1999. Read More

OccupySanLuisObispo
We are the 99%! You are the 99%!
OccupySanLuisObispo, a non-partisan organization, has been in existence for only eight weeks. It was founded by two community members with a vision of creating a network here to voice our concerns about the dire (unequal, unfair, and downright criminal) economic situation in our country and to support the efforts of the Occupywallstreet movement. Since OccupyWallSteet started the movement has circled the globe with offshoots in over 2000 cities worldwide. We also have an occupycalpoly and an occupycuesta as well as emerging groups in our satellite cities. Read More |
